do my jars need to have airflow?

Im really unsure about this. I have tape over the 4 holes and the lids havent been loosened at all since i put them on before i cooked them. Am i doing this wrong?

have you inoculated? If so the holes should be exposed. Do not loosen the lids. The jars need some gas exchange(4 holes in lid) but not fresh air exchange.

You don't want your lids on real tight.Pressure needs to exit or jars could crack. Personaly I don't use tape anymore,just put foil on,3 layers.The tape is to help keep water out.A lot of work when you do 42 jars in a day.

they should be fine just as they are for a couple of weeks, if you are using the
PF tek then the vermiculite thats on top of the substrate is a contam barrier, the
tape should be removed after you notice some mycelium starting to grow, I usualy
wait until it's about 25% or all my inoculation points are starting to grow.
