Define your terms.
What do you mean by "Democracy"? Do you mean a political system with unrestrained majority rule? One with a parliamentary structure such as England or Canada? Or a constitutionally-limited republic such as the United States?
More importantly, what do you mean by "works"?

The illusion of democracy does.

Do you mean a political system with unrestrained majority rule? That system is way too chaotic and subject to majority tyranny and fickleness. One with a parliamentary structure such as England or Canada? I have never lived in England or Canada, so I can't comment much on the parliamentary system. Both of those countries are engaging in such massive income redistribution schemes that it makes me think that the parlimentary system is not very desirable. Or a constitutionally-limited republic such as the United States? This system is too easily influenced by money and factions. Also, the "limiting" factors seem to be ignored when certain politicians start making new laws and thrusting their hands into the public treasury much like a dirty old man thrusts his hands into the pants of an innocent young girl. What we need is an old-fashioned Stalinist state. We need something that will run like clockwork.

Does it work for whom? Whiney self-important Chomskyite bitches? No. Well, not on this continent. There are problems with democracy though: the public is stupid, people are easily exploited by demagogues, easily intimidated by terrorism, and free press tends to undermine free societies.

Plato pointed out the fallacies of Democracy ages ago while he was living under the purest of Democracies that anyone can lay claim to in history, you'd hope that we would be able to recognize the same, especially since his rich merchant theory has been proven numerous times in our own government IMO opinion

Not that stupid - the brits saw through Blair and the WMD bullshit he was spinning pretty quickly. So did the spaniards.
easily intimidated by terrorism,
I think this is more of a US characteristic. Many european countries have lived with terrorism for decades.

Yes. Ironic one of the fathers of Western thought hated Democracy. I wonder what Socrates thoughr before they killed him.

This continent is more than just the United States. The recent elections in Uruguay, for example, are a perfect example of democracy working for "whiney self-important Chomskyite bitches"

Technically that is South America, a different continent with a different culture and history.

according to many Latin Americans, there isn't two continents - "North and South America" - but only one - "America". Their claim is that history has once again mis-represented the 3rd world by labeling them as a seperate continent. I know, it's arguing a technicality, but still!

> Communism > Democracy You are comparing an apple to an orange. Communism is a form of economy, like capitalism. Democracy is a form of representation. These concepts are two very different things. You could have democratic communism, though such a setup would be very unlikely. > does democracy actually work? Donno. I think the system is less important than the people running the system. Any political system can be corrupt by greed, democracy included. > from what i've seen in my life it does not I am curious to where you have actually seen a true democracy run? America, contrary to popular beleif, is not a true democracy. (In America, the people choose a small group of people to represent the masses where a true democracy would require all the people to vote on everything.)
