Can rye go bad that has been soaked and simmered?
    #3418635 - 11/28/04 07:33 AM (12 years, 15 days ago)

I am using Magash rye tek.
I have already soaked the rye, simmered it and put it back into the quart jars.

The problem is, I did all this anticipating I would have my PC (from EBay) by today. It would now appear that it will be at least Monday before I get the PC.

Will my jars be okay if I store them for a few (2-4) days before PC'ing and inoculating them?

If so, any certain way I should store them?
Thanks!

Refrigerate them (if possible first) but pcing will kill any growth that may develops either way, especially if its only a couple more days.

Most spores, contaminants included, take 3-5 days to show face, the pc will kill them after germination also.

You may never have this problem again, since youll have your pc indefinately after it arrives. But the best advice I can give is to make sure from this point on you have all materials needed before you start your grow, or any phase of it for that matter.

Im sure lots of grows have been hindered or cancelled all together because of lack of prepreation.

Good luck my friend,

Kido

Also since you got the PC from Ebay, I am assuming it is used, make sure a do a test run without the jars in it first to make sure all the seals are good. You may also want to put some vegetable oil on the O-ring so it will stay soft and not start cracking.

Testing out before hand will also help you to see what settings on your oven to use to have a steady 15psi. On mine I set it to 12 until it hits 15psi and the valve cover starts rocking real good, then drop it down to 7. The valve cover will then cycle between really hard and not much, but it will stay at 15psi for as long as I want. Also make sure it has a rack on the bottom so the jars will not be sitting directly on the base and make sure your water level is correct after the jars are in there.
