sorry had to bail earlier.

Funky monk, its not that I'm trying to impress people, its just sometimes I really feel about a subject, my mind goes blank when I least want it to, same as when am working on a written report or something similar to that, when I try harder its like a mental block just appears and my minds gets... 'lost'?

the best advice i can offer is to read a lot. i find myself being a bit overly "academic" a lot of times, and losing people in my arguments - so i guess it's kind of the opposite problem you have. (maybe i should stop reading so much? ). however i do get really frustrated if i am speaking norwegian, danish, or french (all of which i can speak conversationally perfectly, but when it comes to more academic/philosophic terms, i'm not nearly as fluent- especially with french) and i know what i want to say in english, but can't figure out how to say it. i end up having to throw in english sentences/phrases all the time (or having to ask how to say something, which always screws up the rhythm of a debate)

I once was told by a professor of linguists that if you cannot formulate the words, you actually have no coherent thought - just the illusion of having one.

read often and expand your vocab power by looking up words that you do not know.

What i always did was read, try to guess themeaning from context, and then look it up.

Eventualy you get really really good at grabbing meaning from context, which is useful.

Start reading. When you start reading you'll find that you begin using many of the written words in your own speech.

It's also nice to visit dictionary.com and use the thesaurus function.
