First time grower, some questions
    #341779 - 06/15/01 08:21 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

I have decided to try and grow my own shrooms. I have browsed through the "Grow" section on the Shroomery and have decided on the "Magic Mushrooms Growing Guide v3.2". It seems simple enough, but I have a few questions about it.

For a begginer, is this method good enough?

Since im low on space, I have decided to use the "Poor Mans Terrarium" which uses the 2 liter soda bottle. Is this a decent terranium to use? Im not looking for quantity.

And how would I go about sterilizing the soda bottle before use?

I plan to order my spores soon, any recomondations?

Thanks :D

that tec is fine...just follow what it says and you wont have any problems. i'd use perlite and some sort of rubbermaid tubberware for a chamber though...it's still cheap

My opinion...Do the pf tek with whole brown rice and vermiculite. Crumble and case your "Completely" colonized cakes. Forget complicated terrariums and use a small non-transparent rubbermaid container with a lid. As for strain try Equador, Thailand, Golden teacher , or B+.....Good luck, you won't need it, just read up until you every step memorized........

Going crazy will drive you mad, but once you get there the rest is easy.....

Use a larger plastic storage container(about $5, try to get one that will let light in) with 1-2" of perlite on the bottom, this method is cheap, easy, and gives you good control over all the factors of your grow wihtout too much extra work. Brown rice flour and vermiculite is simple, grows very well and provides average yields, very good choice for a first time grower. Dont use soda bottles or very small tupperware for a terrarium, you wont be satisfied with the limited real estate. A storage bin will give you plenty of room for whatever you decide to do.

That tek works well, read several before starting then pick one that stuits you the best.

How big is that plastic contrainer that your talking about? And I thought by going with the soda bottle method then I wouldnt have to deal with spraying the cakes?

If you use perlite to humidify then you won't need to spray the cakes, although after a flush its good to give them a little spray of a peroxide and water mix to rehydrate the cakes. A tupperware container is better than soda bottles because you have much more space to work in.

Tired of pimping yourself on the corner to afford spores? Well throw out that red dress and go to the FSR, for spores even you can afford.

Get Up Kids kick ass! You from KC? Am I making an ass of myself? Listen to Psilocybin & JohnnyShaggs. Go with the PF TEK stuff, the brown rice flour and vermiculite cakes. Also, NEVER use 1 pint jars! Unless you have a micron magic i guess. And, yup, just use a sterilite or rubbermaid tub w/ perlite. Good luck man.

PF-Tek and Poor-Mans Terr will do you good peace. Egghead is right. Crumble the cakes up. Then, case them inside of the bottles.

I've heard nothing but good stuff about submerging the cake in water - +a little h2o2 - for a day after each flush.

Like do your casing directly in the bottle a la poor man's tek; simplicity. Air holes?
