listen to what you like, I would avoid gangster rap or anything that conjurs up serious dark negitive shit. try some pink floyd, the beatles (sgt. peppers, etc.) grateful dead, string cheese incident, rush, jazz is very cool.

listen to some music that has some soul to it, some feelings, some personality, positive music.

also just experiment, sometimes something you would never thought of sounds awesome, anything can be cool if you're in the right mood for it but some bands or music styles seem to fit tripping perfectly like gdman said

And if you like to try something daring:
get yourself the movie "Baraka" (or the soundtrack) !!
Music made for tripping/meditation... It really enhanced tripping for me!

Try Autechre, electronic music , it will bring u to other worlds!
These days I listen to it all the time, sober or high. Autechre may be a bit dark sometimes, but still it is a music that grabs u incredibly strongly!

Modest Mouse is awesome. I can't stress this enough. "THIS PLANE IS DEFINITELY CRASHING!" Imagine hearing that yelled at you with a fast beat and guitar noises pulling you in every direction while on a high dose of shrooms? Followed by "Doin the Cockroach" and "Never Ending Math Equation." Absolutely genius music with crazy vocals and instrumentals that will pull you in every direction.
Against Me! is a pretty cool punk band that has some pretty trippy rhythems and layered vocals. I love listening to them sometimes.
Tool is classic.
The Murder City Devils are pretty crazy under a high dose of a hallucinagen. Crazy ass reverbed keyboard and a harsh voice mixed with long strummed guitar parts.
Queen is incredible. Bicycle! Bicycle! I want to ride my bicycle! I want to ride my bike! (Talk about "wtf's" going around the room) Always seems to trip people out whenever I put on my Queen albums.
Beethoven's "The Flight of the Bumblebee" is a pretty crazy song, as well. I like a lot of classical when you're tripping. It has the same buildups and breakdowns that make for an intense trance song, except it sounds a lot different.
The Gorillaz are incredible, as well. Talk about a group that is just 'out there' in general. Awesome music to listen to. As well as Blur.
Adam Freeland has some badass breakbeat mixes that I love to listen to. Paul Van Dyk has some dreamy floaty songs as well.
Any song where they subtlly mention LSD/Mushrooms/etc will make me smile whenever I'm tripping. Sometimes, I'll think I hear things like "uncle, fungus, acid, mushies" in the song...then at a more sober time, I laugh because it sounds nothing like it.
I used to get caught up in just the trance/techno side of music whenever I was tripping or rolling, as it's so moving and powerful. But I discovered that ALL music is moving and powerful when you're tripping and rolling. All music has buildups, breakdowns, trippy sounds, etc...Limiting yourself to one type is silly, in my personal opinion. There's beautiful music to be heard in every genre...And it's awesome to change the mood/attitude of the room with a simple change in genre/artist. Make people feel things and think things through the music YOU play...it's a crazy sense of power on acid. LSD is mind-control, I'm tellin ya. :P

I highly recommend jazz while tripping. It will do things to your mind you never thought possible..Medeski, Martin & Wood, The Bad Plus, Sex Mob, and Soulive are some modern ones..You also would want classics..Monk, Coltrane, Mingus, Parker, etc...

I love to listen to Boxcar Racer whilst tripping (as some of you probably know) and Nirvana is just made to trip too.
Some other classics are..
Queen - Under Pressure (Rah Mix) .. make sure its the Rah mix.
Also The Beetles - Magical Mystery Tour
Other than that i love to listen to trace or chill out songs, i have a great collection just for tripping.
If your trip list gets low just PM me and i will soon sort that out

Skinny Puppy. Their albums Too Dark Park and Last Rights are by far the best. Be careful though, they are pretty dark at times. It can get scary.

Hell yeah, they are amazing, especially Lifeforms EP, electronica ambient symphony. Check em out. And Shpongle isn't very relaxing when tripping, I find it a lot of work, but unlike anything out there. It wasn't made on this planet.

Van Halen has a really appealing sound IMO. Eddie Van Halens guitar work is pretty uplifting and very chill. Then again, you can't go wrong with Pink Floyd, TooL, or NIN.

Mmm Boards of Canada perhaps "Music has the right to children" and "A beautiful place out in the coutry" are just single suggestions most of their stuff is pretty schweet. And like mentioned earlier shpongle will tear you up lol good stuff. Possibly some orbital like the one from the "Hackers" sound track also Air Moons Safari "La Femme d argent". All singular suggestions but deffinitely keep a variety on all your mix CDs

I couldn't agree more. Some other great electronic music: sphongle, biosphere, jean michel jarre, the Orb, return to the source (collection CD, see RTTS ), lounge music like supperclub, etc.

i agree with some of the ones mentioned here, but i want to add one thing: listen to the radio! its alway surprising what song comes next and the commercials and the moderators are always a big laugh because their voices make no sense and sound very strange.
