Perfect pinset, every time
    #3412586 - 11/26/04 02:02 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I only use bulk substrates for my cultivation. Usually a cow manure/grass compost mixed with straw. I use rubbermaid or sterilite containers with a lid that "snaps" down. I've found that filling the casing layer to level with the top of the tray results in a perfect colonization every time. The lid compacts the casing layer a slight amount and allows the mycelia to colonize it perfectly in the incubator. After it's about 80% colonized, I sprinkle a tiny bit more casing material on it and birth. A perfect pinset every time.

wtf is with your signature?

I don't think I'm alone when I say that arguing that MJ can result in criminality is a good reason for keeping it a crime. Yeah, it can get you busted, so let's change that!

Back on topic, don't youf ind that those sterlite "snap" lids are not very air-tight? do you think that helps or hurts?

are you talking about the large 60 gallon sterlites? if so that would be a lot of fucking casing/substrate. I thought compressing casing layer is a no no.

Hah, no, not a 60 gallon sterilite.  That would be so much mushroomy goodness I couldn't handle it all

Just the 10-12 quart trays.  The compression is very minute, you can see the thick ropy rhizopmorphs popping up.

i cut mine in 1 inch peices lol. use coir/verm 50/50 casing and incubate till ready to fruit. Not sure what casing he uses. Usualyl when i spawn to my straw i leave just enough room at the top of my containers for the casing. So whne i wrap it up for incubation once more it also presses the casing down a tiny amount.
