maximum capacity
    #3411482 - 11/26/04 10:31 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I read notapillows post about 2012 and it made me think of something I was considering the other day. I was playing sim city (yes, I know this makes me a loser, but we all knew that) and I finished the city....there was no where else to go...or grow...it was full, every single little tile was used...but there was still a demand for housing, industry and commercial goods. There will always be this demand, but there won't always be the space for it. And then I realized....this is going to happen in real life! one day we will run out of space, the world population is multiplying like never before and we just keep building and building and building. We destroying alot of the green space that we have left. I used to live in the middle of fields and forest, I now live in a subdivision, the sad thing is I didn't move....it was built around me and is now sprawling past me. We're using resources as tho they will replensish themselves....they may...but not in the time we're alotting them too. This is just not sustainable. What happens when we reach the maximum capacity of this world...then what?

Then everyone dies. Slowly and painfully.

the world population is tapering off due to demographic transition. there will be a need to lessen consumption, increase recycling and move to renewable energy though, youre right.

Gillette, I've thought about this so much before, especially in the past few years.

First off, you must know that I hate Star Trek, and Star Wars is pretty lame too.

That said, I believe that in time our world is going to have to be either abandoned altogether, or a large majority of people will have to move to another planet to colonize.

In time the human race (granted we don't kill ourselves) will have to leave this planet and look for a sustainable ecosystem on another planet that we can live on.  Not that it will be our lifetime, or maybe not even our children's, but I don't really see any other way if life continues as it is now.

Somewhere I heard that our scientists could develope a bubble type deal, much like atlantis, that would be self-sustainable and have an unending oxygen supply due to plants, etc.  But I'm sure it wouldn't be to the degree of atlantis.. without a ton of money.  Then they run into the food shortage.  Where would people get meat from?

Anyway.. just a few thoughts on it.

wtf is demograpgic transition? The world population is tapering off due to the NWO and the successful AIDS campaign, the many wars and senseless killings they promote.. tobacco, alcohol, fast food, birth control, prescription drugs, unnatural chemical death and disease.. and many other ways. They were aware of the over-population problem as far back as the 50s. They didn't think we would make it to 2000. So they thought there are two ways to decrease the global population... increase the death rate and/or decrease the birth rate.. even with all that we are still spawning like rabbits. And from my position it's not a good thing.

Thank you Shroomism!

Other people might not see that as a compliment, but I picked Fry because him and I are a lot alike.. even if in reality he is just a few pencil scratches, we still have a lot of the same attitudes toward things.

I like his way of thinking

"hey Leela.. will you hold my ankles so I can reach over the boat and drink this slurm? I'm dying of thirst"
"No Fry that's rediculous"
"Fine, then I'll just dive in and drink all I want..ha"
*dives in*
"help I can't swim!"

yeah I've been thinking alot about the whole thing...I think its going to come down to killing eachother for space and resources, just like wild territorial animal would. Whether it be through war in which one nation will conquor another for its space and resources (think U.S. v.s Iraq) or through a much more passive agressive launch on disease (like aids) on a country and generally hoping that a survival of the fittest type outcome ensues. You can already see the tensions over over-population and lack of resources rising. Just look at rates of migration. People from already crowded countries (India, Pakistan, China) are migrating to the not crowded countries ie: Canada....come on people lets us Canadians have a chance to crowd and fuck up our own country before someone else moves in and does.

With that said...

I'm planning on moving to Canada.

Sorry Gillette, but I want to have a hand in fucking up Canada too, America's already been pushed past that point, so there is only a few small more tasks needing completion before our country is complete shit.
