Peroxide in karo jar

Okay, I have a halfpint karo jar that may or may not be contaminated. If I add peroxide in a 1:10 ratio about 24 hours before I use the jar to inject some PF jars, will this kill the nasties in the karo water? I want to try this, and I think it will work. Anyone done this? Thanks, y'all.

Whats making you think that it is contaminated? Just shoot one jar up with it and see how it goes. If the contam already has a growth in the jar and not just spores of a contam the peroxide isn't going to help.

I have already used this jar to shoot up several jars, and got a 50% contamination rate. Unsure, though, whether this was due to sloppy injection in an unsterile manner, or because the karo water is bad. Can a contam'ed karo jar still produce a 50% positive outcome?

i would think the odds would be insane to actually get a positive out of a dirty jar somewhere around one in a million, if even feesable. i would go with its not the karo.

yeah it does sound confussing i meant it seems odd to actually get a good colonization off of dirty jar. the odds of it happening would be so rare if possible at all, which i think it isnt. i was just typing to type to be honest.

hmm... i dunno about that. if it grew myc and then got contamed it could easily contam a jar.. in the honey water jar tek it says to add straight h2o2 to your solution.. 2-3cc's after it colonized, so go for it.

If you have a colonized portion of either karo or honey, you shouldn't need to add any H2o2 into the mix. Your substrate shuld already be sterile, your syringes should also be. Your work environment should again be as sterile as possible. There shouldn't be any need for this at all.

yes.. that is all true, but like you said "sterile as possible" adding h2o2 to your mix is just added protection from your mostly sterile work environment.

But your innoculant is already sterile, theres no point to it.

First off..adding h202 wont kill any bad things..it will only kill spores, good or bad which if exist will have germinated by now and not be spores anymore or affected by the h202. If you put in enough h202 to kill nasties, you'd kill the myc. There is no cure all chemical that will kill bad things and let myc live, sorry.
Second off, if you had ANY sucesses, then the jar is not contaminated and you just werent sterile enough.

Thank You everyone. I appreciate the responses. I think I'm going to try putting in some peroxide, I won't put in enough to hurt the mycelium, maybe half a capful. I am also going to start flame sterilizing, which I haven't been doing (only alcohol wipedown in a hepa-filtered closet). Wish me luck! Peace!
