This isnt really used in growing shrooms.... but i would get a fractional distillation rig, with some round bottom flasks and a vacuum thingy =) this could come in very handy if you like to "play" with solvents, and do chemical extractions....

while you're at it, get some round bottom flasks like mentioned before, some ring stands, a condenser or two and the joints needed to setup a still or a refluxing apparatus.. they're always fun to play with.. and get all the other aformentioned items too

Well since other people mentioned stuff you probably won't be able to get, get a big laminar flowhood, bacti-cinerator or at least an alcohol lamp or bunsen burner, Big Autoclave, and a binocular microscope with 100x, 40x, and 20x lenses.
Flasks with screw caps are nice, and hard to find a good deal on, and glass petri's cost about $7 new, and $3 used, so a pile of them would be nice.

Glass petri's are good and expensive, but plastic are dirt cheap, so it really doesn't matter, 1 glass usually costs more than 20 plastic, there are some plastic ones that are reuseable, but most aren't. Well actually, I've heard of people wiping out plastic ones with alcohol and/or microwaving them to reuse.
If you're on a limited budget, I'd stick with the basics, petri's, inoculation loop, large test tubes with screw caps, maybe a few ehrlemeyer(spelling?) flasks(but wide mouth beer bottles work fine for PCing agar. Some scalpals, and an alcohol lamp or bunsen burner. And slides/cover silips for the microscope if you don't have any, oh yea, and agar.

Yea, but sometimes quanity isn't that bad, I've got over 400 plastic petri's, cost me about $50, Inoculation loop is a metal rod, usually with a wood handle, and one end usually has a loop on it, it's for inoculating petri dishes, they're not very expensive, but still hard to find without ordering from someone and paying shipping. I'd go to www.fungi.com or http://www.mycosupply.com/ or http://www.mushroompeople.com/cat2000/index.html to see pics and retail prices of the items you would want.

FP is a rip off, but I've ordered a fair amount from them, there is still alot of stuff that not many other carry, but hopefully that will change.
You and dimitri oughtta be able to work out a nice trade, he has stuff that you'll want/need since you're just getting started.
Good luck at the lab

Jared ... That catalog is about 2000 pages of products and info. I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Not much in the way of "cheap" stuff tho... it's all professional equipment. I especially got a kick out of the $2000 Waring blender. Anybody want a shroom shake? That was the "cheap" one btw. They do have some good deals and alot of hard to find items. Enjoy it when you get it.
