Meat and potatoes karo recipe--advice?

Okay, so, had many failures lately. Some w/ grain, some with karo. With karo, I'm wondering what is a good, conservative recipe for karo. I mean, karo to water ratio? Add nutritional yeast and how much/water volume? How to heat up the PC; add boiling water and get it up to 15 psi as quickly as possible? How long to PC once it reaches 15psi? My jars keep looking sort of cloudy. I want that clear water w/ a cloud of myc. Any advice? This seems like a really simple tek. I should be able to do this. Help for my dumb ass? Thanks!

Use a 1/2 pint jar. Fill it with 100ml of water and 1 tablespoon of Karo. No yeast. PC at 15 psi for 15 minutes, no longer. It is not necessary to start with boiling water; in fact, adding boiling water to room temp. jars might crack them. Incubate at 84-86F and within a week you should have nice growth. When you have a nice cloud of myc (after about 2 weeks) you'll be good to go. Good luck.

ACK!
1 TEAspoon karo per 100ml water, not tablespoon!
Incase you don't have a measuring cup with ml; 1/3rd cup + 1 tablespoon + 1 1/4 teaspoon = 100ml

Umm...Well, scatmanrav recommended 1 TABLEspoon and that's what I used for 4 jars and they all came out great. Ready to use in about 10 days.

No sh!t??
1 tablespoon is 3 teaspoons.. that's a huge difference.
The standard karo tek is 1 tsp/100ml ...
karo tek at the nook
Use 1 Level Teaspoon of Light Corn Syrup (Karo Syrup or the "no-name" store brand of Light Corn Syrup) per 100 ml of purified water.

Yes, of course. The mycelium needs ~86?F to grow optimally nomatter what the substrate.

The standard karo tek is 1 tsp/100ml but 1 tablespoon won't hurt. I've done both and each time worked out fine.

So would using more than 1tsp be a good idea, particularly if you plan on storing the jar for a while?

A lil more won't hurt, some use 1 tablespoon/100mL but it doesn't matter really. If you plan on storing it for a while just be sure to put it in the fridge after its grown out.

I've tried both and I've found 1 tablespoon gets me better growth. I use 60ml syringes at a time so when I take from the culture I need a nice thick one.

I've done both also and both worked well. Do you add h202 after noticeable growth? I've noticed some people doing this.

No. It can help if you do it prior to taking a ample everytime. H202 will break down from the myc over a little bit of time but if you inject a little h202 then the water should remain "contam proof" while your working on it and then once the h202 has broken down it should be resealed and stored. I've never done this though.

Anywhere 1-10 cc's would work. If I were to use it I'd probably try 5cc's.

Yo discman, I made my first Karo today, and also got it from the nook. So 5ML Karo @ 100ML water. Often I see one teaspoon @ 1 cup, which is like 5ML on 240ML water. Does it really matter that much? MY karo is a bit yellowish pisslike colour actually... Bad? EDIT: I read the rest of the thread now and I should be fine. Im gonna try to put a piece of mycelium from a slow cake in it. Must toss it otherwise cause need room for some rye-jars. Also made a Karo with 2cc sporesyringe GT @ 100ML karo. To little? I mean not enough spores in it or is it ok? Thanks yall!

i only did 1 cc of spores to my Karo to 100 ml 5ml Karo..i don't have a therm to check temps..kinda hard to say what temp mine are incu..at.but the jars are warm to the touch nothing crazy and they have condensation so must be reasonable temps.
