I've been looking into Morels Damn they are a pain to grow apparently! Has anyone had success with them indoors? It's too advanced for me at the stage I'm at now but soon I hope. Pics would be nice if anyone has made a grow setup for them.

Been there and I read it last night. There are some pretty high end resturants around that would pay $$$ for fresh morels out of season! Dry they are worth $100 to $120 a pound plus shipping!

A decent success rate can be had outdoors, by planting a sclerotia laden substrate block outside in a favorable location. You can search the U.S. Patent index for the indoor morel cultivation technique, but be aware there is at least one important step missing.

It was a bumper year for morels, they are available for $50-60 for a dried pound. There is a company that sells cultivated morels, but they don't taste the same as wild morels.

That is not the patent it is Tom Volk and Tom Leonard's publication on Morchella sclerotia formation.

Yidakiman, have you grown morels from schlerotia outside? I threw pounds of morels all over my yard this year. Also poured lots of morel spore water all around. I'll be curious to see if anything pops up next year.

No, silly me, whenever I found morels this spring I just took them home and ate them. I didnt clone anything I found this past spring. I got a black morel culture in trade and did grow it in grain but I never buried it. This coming spring I may clone a few morels, depending upon how many empty petri dishes I have. I was thinking about planting yellow morel sclerotia in a bonsai, hmm....

All the morels I pitched were bad. It was my first year hunting them, but I had good luck and ended up finding about 300 pounds worth. Next spring I will be taking prints as we have many different species of them out here.
