weaning fatties
    #3408233 - 11/25/04 01:49 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

This is my friends first successful casing(and grow for that matter). Problem is most of his children are real fatties. My friend has read some posts about it and realises that this isn't that bad but his problem is this: They are so fat that he doesn't think he can get a desperately needed print off them. on close inspection he can even see what looks like the cap opening in a scarily fat manner. His question is: is it possible to change the conditions so that these fatties get a little thinner? Could it be the substrate that he used that caused this? (sorghum, no rye in his country). Here are some pics of his rotund children.

a prime example of the fatty family

on the lower right one can see the only normal one of the bunch. Hopefully she works out ok.

Mister fatty and his little brother sitting in the corner...

finally a very small pic of one of the ones where the cap is coming off. this one is only 1cm tall / wide whatever. with these guys all dimensions are equal. (is it normal for a shroom if this size to have it's veil break)

He doesn't think that's the problem since his fruiting chamber gets fanned 2 - 3 times a day and the casing is exposed in the open to light for an hour every day. This is also his only casing in the fruiting chamber. Which is 1m x 0.5m x 0.4m with perlite used for humidification.

Before putting the casing into the chamber the chamber was sprayed with some sort of disinfectant(We don't get Lysol down this end of the woods, only a product called domestos). Maybe something in this product affected the babies? It's active ingredient is O-phenyphenol (whatever that is)

How can you say that you are not going to be able to get prints from those pins?

I see very nice pins, Very fat true and short there? WTF?

I suggest that you wait them out and take a print.
