You can't go back, but you can go forward. If you go through life telling yourself you are somehow substandard, you will seriously miss out. Not that I'm trying to invalidate the pain you feel, I just can't bear to see perfectly good people throw their lives away on regrets and negative thought patterns. There is another way. It takes practice, trying to be positive, but it's so worth it. Get to really know your child. I bet you aren't boring at all!

Loosifa has the right idea: don't dwell on the past, which you can never change.
Look forward, because one thing is certain about the future: things will change.
It is up to you how they change, for you.

I hate myself now and have this 'don't care' attitude now. Penguin, Each day is a new day. Each day is the first day of a new life. Each day is an opportunity to start over with a clean slate. If you keep turning around and looking back, you'll never go forward. Worse still, if you feel sorry for yourself and dwell on the bad things in your past, you'll create a self-fulfilling prophesy that needn't be fulfilled. Everyone's made mistakes in life; how you deal with your mistakes will influence your future. Learn from your mistakes so you don't make them again, but stop carrying them around with you like useless heavy rocks in the backpack of your life. Turn the mistakes into a positive force in your life by using them to frame future decisions and actions in the wisdom that those mistakes imparted, but put those rocks down on the ground and leave them behind where they belong. I wish you luck!

Good advice! Remember, you can't change the past, but you can change your future. Best of luck to you Penguin, my friend.

Some may say that looking neither forward nor backward, but RIGHT HERE, would be an excellent idea.
