1st grow fruiting (pics and questions)
    #3392331 - 11/21/04 06:12 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

hi to all.
it's my 1st grow. the 4 cakes which have pins are cambodian and the 3 with few small pins are equador.
1. do they seem healthy to you? any contamination seen or any other comment?
2. one pin is growing downwards and touches perlite. should i do something for it?
3. should i continue mist lightly everytime i fan them (5 times a day).
4. how tall cambodians usually grow? i have almost 4-5 inches of free space before the taller ones touch the lid. if so what should i do? i know that the caps should not directly touch droplets of water and the lid is full of them.
5. one of the cakes grows mushrooms only from one side till now and is ready to ...fall on perlite. any idea to prevent this from happening?
6. anything you may see in the pics please feel free to comment. anything. thank you.

don't worry about things like shrooms touching the perlite and such.

give them the optimal conditions to grow (light, temp, humidity, fresh air) and don't worry for anything else, you are doing great.
And if you continue with cakes, dont forget to dunk them before first flush and after each flush and roll them in wet vermiculite to rehydrate them.
lots of water to the cakes= bigger mushrooms

Well, light tells them where to grow and they usually grow towards the "hottest light spot", i've heard that reflections (aluminum foil ect) are the hottest, so that's more than likely what's causing it to grow downward, not the greatest thing ever but it shouldn't hurt it that bad. And Gl, Looks good for ur first grow and i'm not sure about they're average length but they look rather nice. I know that Eq's don't get that big but experienced growers somehow get them to turn into monsters sometimes. Well Gl, i hope it goes well,

hi to all. those in the three first pics are cambodian and the last pic shows an equador cake.
1.how do they seem the first three to you? do you think i can harvest them after 2 or more days? i'not in hurry and want to cut all the shrooms together to dunk it for the 2nd flush. and there are a lot of pins there.
2 the last pic is one of the three equador cakes i have. it has small pins slowly growing. also they seem much greenish. at least more than what can someone see at the pic clearly. what do you think?

Those big ones look ready to go. If you want wait a few days for the others to catch up but I don't think you should wait any longer. The veil has broken away already.

congrats! looks like a pretty decent first crack at the hobby. Pick the big ones as they mature, don't wait too long, you might have to pick some prematurely since they tend to grow together at the "root" end.

prepare for the onslaught

thank you for your replies. i will definetely take some prints.
one more question. in the 3rd pic is shown a mushroom which stem is touching the perlite. actually it is the whole stem lying on the perlite. is it safe to cut and eat as the others?

ok, i've just harvested these from three cambodian cakes. they are 207g. good for 1st attempt huh  ? do they seem to you being 207g? i don't know if the scale i used is so good. an expert's eye maybe? i dunked the cakes and put them in the fridge. i'll keep them there for 12 hours and i will not roll them this time. should i? i will only put a wet layer of vermiculite on the top of each cake. comments?
also i'like anybody to comment the equador cakes which are fruiting very slow and are a little greenish. there is a pic above. i'll try to post another later. do you see any contamination? is it normal for equadorians to be a little greenish as small pins?

The shrooms look fine.
Your gonna have to toss the bedsheet though... worst case of green mould I've seen in a long time

hi to all and thanks for your replies till now. you really helped me a lot. i post two more pics (not very good quality) that shows those greenish pins on some equadorian cakes i was talking before. what do you think? seems contaminated to you?
also the two last days a lot of pins appeared on these cakes that looks really fine. the greenish ones showed at least 5 days ago (maybe more).

my friend hamurabi i have to tell you that the lighter is of the big ones. not the small "bic"...
and one more strange question. can a cake grow some contaminated and some healthy mushrooms at the same flush?

oph ok sorry i thought the lighter is the small bic. as i said difficult to find the weight from a photo.
anyway, a cake is contaminated or it is NOT contaminated. not both.
your mushrooms i believe are just bruising, dont worry

Check your humidity level. It could be too high, fan more. Doesn't look like contams to me, definite rh issue.
