basically drawing was one of the only things i got out of high school =P

i like it. a couple of nit-picky comments, since you asked. one thing maybe you could work on is the transition from her head to the landscape, so it flows better. currently, it's a little like she's got some sort of odd helmet strapped on (maybe the effect you want, i dunno). but i'd like to see a smoother transition of the spiky hair into trees or mountains, and the neck and ears somehow metamorphasizing elegantly into the landscape too. i don't like the effect of that sort of flap of glacier (or whatever) that falls into the middle of her forehead. rather, i'd like to see that part of her head blended and transitioned into the mysterious landscape, hair becoming spiky mountains, something of that nature. also, i don't like that black curve between her neck and the mountain range. it's a visual gap where there should be a smooth transition.
also, somehow the streamers seem a little busy, and don't seem to quite come off. you've kind of got this noble thing going with the wing, and the streamers should bring that out, compliment it. instead, they seem to detract a bit from that feel, without really adding anything of their own. i think the idea is there (i.e., the streamer imagery is basically the right visual idea), but currently the weaving in and out of the streamers feels a little bit labored rather than "noble" (noble is not quite the right word - exalted maybe).
what the streamers should feel like, imho, is the kind of mood conjured up by neil young in "after the gold rush":
Well, I dreamed I saw the knights
In armor coming,
Saying something about a queen.
There were peasants singing and
Drummers drumming
And the archer split the tree.
There was a fanfare blowing
To the sun
That was floating on the breeze...
again, these are very ticky-tack criticisms. it's a nice piece of work. i like the hinted-at yin-yang symbol.

the head isn't done yet... i hit a block... i like yur idea tho! i think i'll use it if you don't mind...
i still have some work to do on the wings too, you re-enforced that. 
the wings are supposed to be his "key" if you will... his other-worldly link, tearing through the fabric of time/space....
yes, the yin-yang, once he's finished, i will render myself as the other half, upside down.

http://www.cs.unc.edu/~davemc/Pic/Escher/castro.jpg i suspect ur familiar with this piece. but it has some ideas that might work for ur "mysterious landscape". note the flowers in the foreground, lower left hand corner. imagine the pic flipped, with the flowers growing out of the neck, etc. might work. sumpin like dat. maybe a path that starts with the shoulder and wiiiinnds its way off into the distance, a tiny hair's-breadth line (symbolizing the psychedelic explorer's wandering trip into the mystic!). when you get further along, post 'er agin.

truly amazing.
I'm somwhat of an amature artist, I lack the patience to make anything spactacular though.

david: no, i'm not familiar with that piece, but it's stunning! escher's works just draw you in... i love looking at some of his metamorphasis pieces while under the influence of the mushroom. i havent gotten much more done, but by the time the shroomery is back up i'll be ready to post an updated version.
