Questions on some mushrooms
    #3407042 - 11/25/04 01:58 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I went to the local library to get a book on mushrooms and I got the book ?The Mushroom Book? I have some questions on some mushrooms If you could maybe help me on please. In the book it doesn't say if they are hallucingens or not. Only if its edible, could be edible, poisonous or deadly poisonous
-Are the Laccaria amethystine hallucinogen? I remember seeing some up hiking at Mt. Baker. they were purple
-What oyster mushrooms are hallucinogen or are there?
-Are Panacolina foenisecii, panaeolous semiovatus, Stropharia Semiglobata hallucinogens?
-Are any of the Entoloma?s hallucinogens?
I have mistaken some of the Mycena?s for Psilocybe Semilanceata Liberty Cap lol. If you could help me on some of these questions that would be cool thanks.

foenisecii is not halucinogenic.

http://www.erowid.org/ask/ask.cgi?ID=1977 - says semiovatus isn't hallucinogenic.

http://www.hiddenforest.co.nz/fungi/family/strophariaceae/strophariaceae.htm

lists strophara semiglobata as not edible, but i haven't found anything listing it as hallucinogenic, so i would assume not.

wait for the double check on this post.

if they aren't listed or mentioned as hallucinogenic, it's a pretty good indication that they're not :smirk:.  none of the species you listed are.  some books will label hallucinogenic mushrooms as poisonous, but that doesn't mean other mushrooms with the same label are hallucinogenic.

the common psilocybin-active species are mostly from the genuses Psilocybe and Panaeolus/Copelandia.  Various Psilocybes are by far the most common actives around here.

your last question can easily be answered by researching on your own, which I suggest you do if you hope to find shrooms before the season is over.  I will just say that looking in manure up here is generally a waste of time if you want active mushrooms.

Hey, Shyshroom.... I too am a bellingham resident and let me say you should focus your attention away from cow fields and more towards man made areas and public parks.  I've found many Cyans up in bellingham ( http://www.mushroomjohn.com/species29.htm ) and there should be several other types of woodchip and mulch loving mushrooms that grow in the area.  Also, where you located up there, you going to school, or working... PM me if your interested in going on a hunt sometime soon before the season ends.  Happy Hunting
