everyone says it's so dark.... ?? what, it's sounds all like... not uplifting but neutral? Ya know... it sounds like they were just jamming. Dudes and gals, don't monkey about my post. Sorry, im so hammed right now. Stoned too. Dark Star doesn't sound dark to me. Even thought most people say it does.
A dark song to me is, .... yeah Im thinking... good dope, I grew it myself. It's latargic..... what's the uplifting kind? Satvia or Indica?..... anyways... .. dark song is, okay as you are reading this, I just finished a 10minute argument with my roommate about what qualifies as a dark song. The Beatles - (Paul McCartney) Yesterday qualified.
yeah don't worry, Im checking out Elliot Smith, but I ended up in the L section of my winamp??? Leonard Cohen it is.
It occured to me that to live is to just......... Arnold is gonna be pres. I tuped this out without lookin,.

I think dark star is dark. Listened to it real high once, it didn't seems as mellow and easy going as when sober.

sweet beautiful drunk talk, it never gets old.

Dark Star is dark. Its ominous lyrics and anti-climactic structure evoke a sense of starkness and mystery. When Dark Star is performed in concert the show enters a type of void. It's like the whole idea of anti-matter expressed through a song. It's not dark in the sense that The Wall for example is dark. The Wall is dark because it's so self-reflexive and it forces you to face your demons. Dark Star is dark in another way. Just the two words dark and star put together kind of cancel each other out. Stars are bright by nature. The idea of a dark star is like a black hole or something and I think that's the feeling the band wants to create when they perfom it. They want to suck you into that void of tranquil nothingness. And I don't see how Yesterday is dark. It's a great song but all it is to me is the classic story of love lost and that feeling of hopelessness. I'd call it sad but not dark. Try Floyd's "One of My Turns" if you want to hear a dark song of love lost. Just my $.02.

Yeah, I can see how you feel that way.... The thing with The Grateful Dead's music is that it always sounds different every time you listen. As the years roll by, I'm amazed at how good the shows were that I thought sucked (The Grateful Dead Movie - we were bummed that they were "off" for those shows) and vice versa. I think it has to do with communication between us and (God) whereas sometimes we like what the boss has to say about us and other times we are shown something about us we were trying to avoid in the first place (which is why we want to be entertained). Like the psychedelic experience itself, The Grateful Dead are one part entertainment, one part a journey to self awareness, and the third part is what we do with the info we receive. That last part is the one I struggle with on a daily basis. When I forget to struggle (or am too lazy) is when the disappointment comes, not (as I thought when I was younger) winning the struggle. Losing the fear of failure has given me the ability to have fun, again. Jerry had that kind of character where he wasn't tryin' to win or meet any objective other than play another day. He wasn't tryin' to achieve perfection as a musician. The joy was truly in the journey for all of us. Quote:
...feelin' good was easy, when Bobby sang the blues; feelin' good was good enough for me; good enough for us.
But yeah, I can see how you feel that way.
