silica gel as dessicant?

my friend works in clothing retail and can provide me with these little packets of silica gel (see attached photo). if i make a dessicant chamber using these packets, will they work? if so, how many do you think i'd need? should i leave them in their individual pouches or tear them open and combine them all in one container?

Yes, they will work. Ideally, you could put them in the oven to de-moisturize them. You could empty some of the packs into a bowl to make a desiccant chamber and keep some in the packs to put in the storage container w/ your dried shroomies.

another cheap way to get silica is as kitty litter. somebody mentioned it last week and i was snoopin around wallmart the other day, sure nuff, %100 silica gel kitty litter. brand name has 'crystal' in it. expensive for litter, cheap for dessicant (as far as i know)
