Thanks for the help, ive been wanting to trip for a year now, but everytime my friend says he can get them, they never come thru. I live on a golf course and will look for some shrooms tomorrow, its just hard when you have never found/taken/or seen any before. But maybe I will get lucky soon...

you are way more likely to find cubensis in your local, as they are known to grow wild on horse or cow poo. try endearing yourself to a few farmers.

No description makes an ID difficult.
Collybia butyracea or one of its close relatives, perhaps.
Happy mushrooming!

you live in f'ville? i lived there about 4 years ago.
your best bet would have been to go north of I-20 and search for weilii, but the season's pretty much over.
you're next best bet is cubensis when it warms up (IE - cow poo), but you'll have to go to brooks/griffin area or further to find any cow pastures.

Why would you even think you might've found Psilocybe cyanescens if you live in georgia. You're a good 1500-2000 miles from their native region. Common sense doesn't seem to be all that common these days.

Gumby, why do you always have to put others down? Just cuz we are aren't magic mushroom experts, dont mean you have to bitch at us. Should everyone know where the native region of Copelandia cyanescens? Is that what you call common sense ?

common sense would end his bitching, if you werent so lazy you would do a search first to see if cyans even grow in this area. It just gets annoying post after post of someone sticking up a picture and saying is this a magic mushroom? IF you cant find any info on the species you found then post a thread about it and use the guidelines posted on this site to do so instead of just expecting to do all the work for you

I'm a dick because ignorance is my biggest pet-peeve and it runs rampant on these boards. I'm also a dick because I hate when people make posts like "Durr I can't find any! Pitty me!"
It just seems to me like if you think you've found *Psilocybe* cyanescens (not Copelandia, bud) that you would look up info on them, find out that they don't grow within 1000 miles of where you live and then be able to asure yourself that they are not the species that you originally though. That, my friend, is how common sense should work.

I've called it quits for hunting this season after an encounter with a lady from one of my more productive subdivisions. Here's a link to my last harvest of the season: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3331904/an/0/page/0

jw...why did you decide to become a moderator here and help others learn if ignorance is your biggest peeve? That just doesn't make sense. I'm not coming right out and saying your manner is irritating to some members and deterring to potential shroomerites.Quote:

The original poster never said Psilocybe or copelandia. He said only 'cyans'. He doesn't state if he means copelandia, panaeolous, (the same, I know) or psilocybe. Could it be that he's a little unsure?? Quote:

Common sense to one person is not common sense to everyone else, especially ones new to a particular area of study. It's a shame everyone does not post a nice ID request thread, maybe the problem is the ID guidelines are too hard to find. Think about it, practically every new member that needs an ID does it wrong. But then again, no one says anything nice when they ask for an ID correctly so it would just be boring here without all the attitude, eh?
It would be cool if we could all just accept things when they don't happen just right and not get in a huff over what should be accepted as fact since it happens so often. damn

Isn't that what the mushroom hunting forum is for , to have others identify what you are unsure of , so you don't die by eating a bad shroom. Why are you on his ass about him asking a question?

Gumby is mean to me too, but it turns me on. BUT, if you find a mushroom, and it has white gills, it is definitely NOT an active room of mush. Copelandia Cyanescens should have black gills, but I actually don't know that much about southern rooms. You should ask Gumby. He's really smart. And that's no joke.
