Spent 40 bucks on a 2 dollar fix.

Ok, so I'm doing the PF Tek for my first grow and 3 days ago I dunked/cold shocked then birthed my cakes into the fruiting chamber. I decided to go with perlite for humidity because it seemed like a foolproof system and easy enough that even a noob couldnt screw it up. I put in about 2" and filled with about 1" of water, yada yada. My hygrometer after 12hrs still only read like 78%. I've been working with it for 3 days and couldn't get the RH above 78%. It was driving me nuts.

So, I drove out to Wal-Mart tonight and picked up this $40 ultrasonic humidifier. I used a plastic garbage bag over the top of my fruiting chamber like a hood and ran it to the exhaust vent of the humidifier. This baby works like a dream. Variable humidity controls, and airflow speed. It's got it all. After an hour my hygrometer still reads 78%! Which is impossible because I made sure to fog up the fruiting chamber so much that you couldn't even see the bottom.

Turns out the perlite was probably doing the job after all. It's just that damned $8 hygrometer I bought at the pet store wasn't worth a shit. Leason learned. Just wanted to pass on the experience to anyone else that might have this problem in the future. A new $2 hygrometer from wal-mart might just save you some cash and some peace of mind as well. BTW, thanks you, everyone who helped me with my annoying perlite questions here and in #cultivation chat these past few days. I feel like such a dumbass.

Pet store does have lots of cheap-shit you can use for your grow though, mind you.

Hey look at it this way, now you got yourself a kickass humidifier that you can use in the future for a bigger setup. Like a martha or a big PMP or a small green house with shelves that I saw at Big Lots.

Ya, that's the way I looked at it as well. I figured, "what if the hygrometer is bunk and I get another one and it's jacked up too". At least this way I bought 40 dollars worth of piece of mind. I'm gonna have to find a new way to set this thing up but the garbage bag works good for now. I'll probably stop by the hardware store Friday and get some kind of 3" plastic tubing or something.
