Submersible or NOT?!!
    #3404382 - 11/24/04 05:04 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

K, i bought this "submersible aquarium heater" with a "waterproof seal" and... AND a maximum water level mark... WTF?! isn't that kindof a contradiction in terms? a "submersible aquarium heater" with a "waterproof seal" that cannot actually be submerged? The brand is THERMAL and its 100W, anybody have any experience with this heater? I figure that its either entirely false advertising, or that it could CONCEIVEABLY operate under water, but it is not advised.

Serious PITA to take this back too, hopefully you fellas have good news for me.

Thanks All
H

I think you got it wrong, IT must be submerged at least untill that indicationmark!! At least thats how my heaters work. For safety or that the glas wont burst or sumtin..

But if it says it can not be submerged then you are out.....

So by that logic, all aquarium heaters are submersible cause I can't see a heater being terrifically effective if its not at least partially submerged... But then how do you know if a submersible heater is ACTUALLY FULLY submersible, if theres no indication on the package that would lead you to believe otherwise? I thought the fact that the heater would have to be partially submerged was a given.

There are these morones who put a non submersible under water and lay a submersible in the dry sand, so for the fools amongst us its written at least submerse it somewhat.
To intelligent lights like you and me that can sound strange cause: OFCOURSE I will submerge it!

But read it good, if it says its submersible then ull be fine.

Rieleks meet!

The ones you want will say submergable. I'm not sure but maybe that's the difference.

if its submersiable, it will not say "partialy submerciable" but even partials gotta have all the glass/metal heating element submerged in water or it will bust.

haha! really?! submergable means fully submersible? Thats a serious bastardization of the english language, i hate it when language is misappropriated simply to cover up the monumental fuck up that is calling a non-submersible heater, submersible! WTF IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO??!!

H-->  "but it said submersible on the package!"
HSP--> "yeah, subMERsible - it didn't say subMERGAble, what are you, an idiot?"
H-->  "that must be the problem"

entirely synonymous. I hate how the corporate world jargon-izes perfectly simple common words like that. To even suggest that theres a difference is absurd, not to mention that something called submersible isn't necessarily that. I mean, i'd be wrong to say that i'm submersing myself by twiddling my big toe in a puddle, right?

haha, shut it!

Turns out its some Canadian CSA thing, they like to see that written on all submersible heaters sold in Canada REGARDLESS of how submersible they are. I'm sure they'd also like to have us all walking around in helmets and knee pads as well. Its in the water now, and i'll get back with the results.

I said it would be cool. Just chill friend!

Mine is also submersible or whatever one calls it. But there is a minimun indicator on it, you must put it in the water at least a few inches untill that indicating line.

Youll be fine.

Happy growing!
