Human race in its infancy?
    #3399785 - 11/23/04 05:52 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Kaiowas said in another thread "heh, the human race on earth itself is STILL in its infancy."

This seems to be a commonly held belief here - why? What if the human race is almost done for ? Not that we're about to die, but rather at some point in the near future ( ~200 years ) we evolve into something else?

Won't the "old" humans just be outdated steps for the "new" humans? If humanity is thus inheritable, what about all of our precursors, ie apes fish etc ?

If some of humanity evolves a new species, are the old humans then cannon fodder, since they're no longer "most developed" or some crap like that?

I don't think it's so much about the future as it is about the past. As a species, humans have been on the Earth for only a VERY short time (homo sapiens sapiens only about 100,000 years). Dinosaurs were around for 300 million years. Single-celled life was the only life for 2 BILLION years on this planet.

Compared to most other major species, we are just out of the womb :smirk:

Or stagnate and die, yes.

Mammals have a mean species life-span of 600,000 years. Birds are at about 2 million. We're still in puberty.

Only in theory.

I can't see anything past where we are now.

Where else do we have to go?

This is why I just can't buy evolution; slow advancement, correction, improvement of organisms.
