Popcorn drying out ...
    #3402946 - 11/24/04 11:38 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I have quart jars of popcorn in the incubator that look like they're drying out. What can I do about this? They have tyvek filters on the top and the popcorn was boiled for an hour, strained, and PC'd for an hour in jars. What's the problem?

Ok I will do just what I did with my dry cakes: add some sterile water with a PC-d syringe.
Just stick yhe needle through the polyfill and there we go.

Almost all the corns have some white but it isnt an all white colony, they look dry..:(

If you are using just tyvek then it will dry out. Go with the polyfill stuffed in a drilled hole. It works everytime.

You can reduce the surface area of the tyvek by applying tape over some of it, and only leaving a portion of it exposed to air. This will help the jars retain moisture.

I use polyfill btw, with alufoil over it, but after more then 3 weeks I can imagine things getting more dry.

EDIT: Does that make sense?

Isn't tyvek supposed to help retain moisture? I thought water cannot pass through it..
