fruiting chamber @ ~93% rh - transfer casings to pmp for pinning?
    #3402493 - 11/24/04 07:42 AM (12 years, 14 days ago)

hey!

so i did a new fruiting chamber that is usually having around 93% rh.
i have had two casings in there for a mere 6 days now, and none of them
is showing sings of either knots or pins.

i have been wondering if i should transfer them to a poor mans pod
in order to get them to knot up/pin and then put them back into the chamber for
maturing,
or if i should leave them where they have been the past 6 days and just
wait till they do something on their own?

btw, here is a picture, the casing has been looking like this for 3 days now,
saying the 'breakthrough' of the casing layer has completely stopped,
could this be a sign of it 'collecting energy' to knot/pin?

oh btw, its cased straw.

i'd like your opinions on that subject.
peace ohm :mushroom2:

*edit*
just wanted to add that i understand that the perfect conditions for knotting/pinning are 95-100% rh,
but u know, once u did a chamber ur like HELL i want it to happen all in there

Hey bro, I dont want to be the guy that says be patient...but be patient.

Ive had casings in my fruiting chamber at optimum conditions for 9 days and I still dont see knotting.

It doesnt mean they wont knot, but it does mean they need more time to do so. Even if your conditions are optimal there are other considerations, such as strain and casing material.

This may lead you to go into an in depth inquiry of your specific substrate materials, but in general just give it some time.

Everyone wants things faster, and bigger, and better. But theres no quick method to harnessing life in any form.

They will do their thing if you give them a chance.

Good luck

have u got experience with casings knotting/pinning in non 95%+ rh environments
or is this just something that makes sence for u?

i'd like evidence.

Ive had my casings sitting in a %95 and they work fine  pins will be showing within 8-10 days, so hang tight

Yes, I have received pinning with as low as 85% rH.

I do however believe it is more important to have proper air exchange and lighting when doing so.

My last casings in a PmP knotted in 10 days at 85-90% humidity. It was a 70 gallon container with a 16/8 light cycle with 4 bubble wands total attatched to two dual 30-60 gallon fish tank pumps. Lava rocks were used to humidify. A container that large was difficult to keep a higher rH, but it didnt effect it much in the long run.

Now that I use a martha, the ultra sonic takes care of humidity in minutes. So I cant compare my current casings in regards to your question. But there hasnt been much difference with my current 95+% humidity levels.

If you are keeping your casings properly misted then slightly lower rH, especially 93% is fine.

So to answer your question 90-95% humidity is fine, and even with 85% pinning will still occur if you care for your casings. It has for me.

I noticed you said "New fruiting chamber" is it a martha type that you are using or somehting different? I can kind of see it in the picture but its hard to tell what it is exactly.

Also what is your method for humidity and air exchange?

Its not too difficult to make bro, you should look into. Unless its exposure to the public eye youre concerned about.

I built two PmPs (elaborate ones) that were more expensive then my martha, and half as effective.

concerning humifiers, the place i come from, the cheapest ultrasonics useable for out purpose
are about 150 usd and same goes for coolmists,
actually i havent even seen any coolmist in stores anywhere, just online...
talk about pricey
peace ohm :mushroom2:

*edit*
allright, so i will just leave them as they are and wait some more,
any input on the casing layer, should i mist it?
as far as i have understood at this stage of mycelium 'breakthrough'
misting wouldnt do any good anymore, is this correkt?
