“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)

Thankyou. If anyone wants to hazard a guess at the ID of the cacti in the last two picks,be my guest. I have no idea,I think they are probably hybrids though????

Nice garden, give it 10 years and you'll have a sight to see.

You should cut the bases at an angle so they dont pool water.

Yeah, thats why i planted them on an angle,to stop water pooling.

Psilostylin, I'm not sure of the age,i only got it six months ago. It's a scopulicolis.

Our winters are mild enough and we get enough hot sunny days in summer to really get them pumping. On a warm day you can almost watch them grow. They sure do love the sunshine.

Wonderful stuff. How cold do your winters get, and for how many months? Just wondering what the dormant period is.

Ah... how I wish I lived in a land with no freezing. :frown:
