Fanning after pinning??
    #3399390 - 11/23/04 04:17 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Hi all,

A friend of mine is cultivating a batch of panaeolus cyanescens for the first time and his casing is just starting to produce pins (quite an accomplishment for a first timer from what I gather). I have read in numerous places the importance of fanning with pan cyans as they apparently are more sensitive to CO2 buildup. I'm seeing some contradicting info though. Some say to fan all the way up to harvest. Others say fanning is not necessary after pinning has begun. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it best to continue to fan to harvest?

Not fanning will effect the size, shape and yield of your flush.

I was just discussing this with a friend the other night about oxygen exchange. From what I have read and believe since mushrooms thrive on O2 for growth, fanning would be optimal. I have yet to see any difference with or without fanning as I'm just starting my new batch, but I did some research to figure this out.

It's sounding like fanning all the way is the way to go. Does anyone disagree? If so, why?

I only fan until I see heavy pinning. Then I am harvesting couple times a day so the fruiting chamber get a change of air that way.

The only time I fan is before I see pins. Then I fan 3 times a day or not. Depends on what is going on around my house that day.

I do now that fresh air excahnge is very important to forming pins after that? I have no clue. But I really dont stay on top of it after I see pins.
