My great great grandchildren picked all the shrooms off one of the cakes he had. He let the cap mature too long and the ends turned up and the top turned black. It that normal? The aborts also turned black. just the caps though. It seems like i've seen pics of really mature shrooms turning black.

Do they stink like their rotten?
May just be covered with spores. The spores will turn your shrooms black.

im assuming they turned black before the kids picked them...in which case its normal for dead/abhorted mushies' caps to turn black. i wouldnt worry about them unless they smell bad. ive only seen a full grown mush turn black once, and it was left on the cake until everything was dry(very long time).

if the mushrooms matures and the cap open up wide then it's normal to be black on top (from the spores) eat it up,except if it stinks or something

yes the cakes can be dunked and you can try to fruit them for a second flush.
