4 - 1/2" Holes for air exchange...
    #3394313 - 11/21/04 09:33 PM (12 years, 18 days ago)

...on my PMP (on the lid)

will the allow for sufficient air exchange and still keep the humidity up(perilite)?

should i put some type of polyfil or coffee filter over the holes?

i cant remember exactly right now. but i think h2o is lighter than co2 so it seems that by leaving hole you also leave an easy way for the humidity to escape before any co2 could. just my opinion it dont sound good but im sure somebody will come and say this is how they do it and it works like a charm

it would appear you have read the origanal PMP thread which calls for a couple holes on the lid. I got 2 1/2" on mine stuffed with some polyfill. It says you don't need it, but you can't be to sterile.

Im 20 and Ive read a few articles from the Wiz

Either way there are differing opinions on the subject. Heres my take on it, using both prior articles and some old Magash explanations on the issue, which you can find on his very elaborate PmP thread.

You can place holes in the lid if you are using some type of device, bubble wands/air pump, under the water which mixes the air and diffuses the seperation of gasses. Since in ideal conditions there is a mixture of both c02 and 02 in nature its not necessarilly negative to have a subtle mixture of each.

If you have no method of circulating fresh air besides daily fanning (hopefully mutliple fannings) it would be advisable to place the holes 3-6 inches above the bottom humidity layer (geolite/perlite) to allow the heavier c02 to dispense itself.

Definately use polyfill inserted in the holes either way. Leaving open holes in your PmP defeats the purpose in having one. Tyvek unfortunately will not be sufficient for this.

Good luck bro,

Kido
