I can't say from experience, but I have been reading up on this subject. I have read that the straw should stay contam resistant for two weeks if it was pastuerized correctly. So, if you lay down a sterile casing layer, it shouldn't matter if there is any straw left still to be colonized.

what are those tiny things on the second pic? I remember also having
them when I ran straw once

I have no idea.. it was sketchy at first, but since there's none of it on any of the (obviously healthy) myc, I'm not too worried...

it looks like bacillus to me which i've only seen on grain & pf jars before, but i'm not sure.

looks like some kind of mold.. remove for saftey reasons.

I'm almost positive thats not mold though it looks like it. I remember having similar when I did straw..it was on the straw to begin with. Watch if it spreads but if it doesnt look fuzzy and looks more like its spots in the straw you should be ok.. I case at this point:
