A Question ...
    #3392952 - 11/21/04 02:25 PM (12 years, 21 days ago)

I don't have Microsoft Word.
I need to know how many words will fill 2 pages, double spaced, 12 font.

I have 436 words.

Can someone take this text and pop it into word and let me know where I stand?

Thanks kids!

Evaluating myself was not as painful of a process as I foresaw. I made it out to be a very discomforting and revealing activity, of which it was. But more the latter than discomforting. Overall the experience was helpful. After viewing my first informative speech, I realized a few things right off. I saw a strong asset in my conviction to a style straying from my common stream of speeches. In hindsight, I'm sure hearing a topic not involving alchohol, rap, or the electoral college was at least somewhat comforting to someone in the class. And I realize that this demographic may be narrow, but let's talk about real thought to action translation. What I mean is, I could have a speech that chose a topic that would have interested more people, but instead chose one that seriously grabbed maybe one person's attention, who is now going to investigate mushroom cultivation. I've digressed.

Another plus I pointed out to myself also falls under my dedication to an unconformed conversative discussion (speech). That is, if you're intimately involved with your topic then it's impossible not to convey your conviction. However this aspect can easily be moddled down if one chooses to write an overly verbose speech, such was the case in my second informative speech. In this speech I strayed from the sing songy approach to speech giving. Speeches given in this manner tend to feel contrived and sound as if they're being read from a bedtime book. Even the example videos we viewed in class gave me this impression. By choosing a topic that was both exotic to the realm of Comm 111, potentially interesting, and teamed with an "off the cuff" approach I was able to deliver with confidence and didacity.

In the speech at hand (which preceded Info. #2) I did a much better job of minimizing jargon, and instead used as much metaphoric symbolization as possible. The speech would have been even better if I had employed the main purpose that I had intented, which was to explain the process of mushroom cultivation by highlighting it's similarity to "normal" plant growth. I did manage to verbalize this idea in the speech and use it to successfully describe the process, but it could have definitely been used more. I saw many a dazed face in the audience, signalling that the details of the speech were not exactly driving home to most. The speech as a whole was understood generally, but I doubt anyone would have been able to walk away with the ability to cultivate their choice of mushroom now that I had enlightened them.

1.5 pages.  You need about 13 more lines I think.  Good luck.

Damn you Odium with your fancy screenshots!  :smirk:

If you want some constructive criticism of your text, don't hesitate to ask.
