Yes your right...
We need to innoc in a sterile environment....
As soon as the jars are removed from the cooker and exposed to air the lids could be considered unsterile..
When you are ready to innoc your jars you need to prepare the area you will be working in....
AFOAF accomplishes this by turning off the A/C or heat, any and all fans, cleaning all surfaces in the area, spraying lysol everywhere. Remember that we as human beings are a good transporter of contams..Shower right before and put on clothes straight out of the drawer, cover you nose and mouth with a mask or a bandana straight out of the drawer....Put on sterile gloves if you have access if not wash your hands thourghly...
Remove the foil from the jars only right before you innoc..
If you follow all of this you can greatly reduce the contams in the environment and hopefully your syringe, lids and holes will not have any contams fall onto them...
A flow hood can really help though I dont think one is necessary if you use good sterile technique...
A perfectly sterile environment is impossible but we can get it pretty damn clean if we understand what we are doing....
Peace and good luck my friend

Just flame the needle between innoculations, you will average 80-85% success rate....
Going crazy will drive you mad, but once you get there the rest is easy.....

I'm no expert (by far), but I don't have holes in the lid untill it comes time to innoculate. When I put holes in it's very carefully under very sterile conditions.
