Questioning The Bible

I am human. I question things that don't make sense at the time. Some of the things I resolve, some not. One question I have always had is- Why don't things like God smiting people and burning them alive where they stand happen anymore? Your thoughts on the subject please.

What the heck does the body of your post have to do with the subject of it? I'm not following you. Edit: To actually answer your question: I believe that the bible was wholly misunderstood. It's meant to be taken metaphorically and not literally. and there is a lot of bullshit in it, too. Am I going to hell?

Well that's good, but if you want to convey it to others maybe it should be more consisely worded.

Either you.....nevermind. Look, I stated it very clearly. "Why don't things like God smiting people and burning them alive where they stand happen anymore?"

i assume you're talking about the OT god, since i don't think that really happened too much in the new testament. and i think it's because the old testament god wasn't the same god as the NT one. he's the judaic god; ruthless, and to be feared. "I am the Lord your God, and I am a jealous God." or something along those lines. once jesus came along, god over his PMS and started embracing his little apemen *edit: i should make it clear that according to christianity, we're still living in the "new testament" style world...that is, most of gods characteristics are portrayed by this character, and not the OT one.

It does happen dude. But when it is reported people just don't want to here it or believe it.
Also in the bible you will rarely find anything like that happening in the New Testament.
The Old testament is the Old contract betweeen God and Man The New testament in the New contract betwwen God and Man
People who tear the bible stories apart as nothing more than "metaphorically speaking" have no clue as to what Jesus and the New testament are all about.
God used to do a lot of worldy strange things. But he figured out that don't work very well. So instead he came himself as Jesus to show us another way to him.
Long story here but I will cut it short there

Either that or he used his examples in the beginning to establish his unlimited power and glory.

I never entered into any contract with God. God has never appeared in any form and offered a contract, nor did he himself sign one, with anyone. Show me where it is so.
I thought the human species as a whole was actually making some progress...
Peace.

NO NO NO you don't understand
God is perfect Man is not God tried getting closer to us thru the tabernacle and preists etc... That didn't work
So he send Jesus to provide a clearer path for us
Yes God knows all but he gives us a free choice and despite what yo umay have heard. God does not know every decision you will make.
Jesus said himself that only a Man's decisions can bring him to God. Not God can bring a Man to him.

Perhapse this "god" that killed people, that was "angry" or whatever, was actually some kind of alien civilisation. Perhapse there were frequent contacts with alien races in the past which led to all those myths and religions. There is a lot more about such things in Veda books. Like gods that have flying fortreses out of gold, fiering down on people with lightning. Devine weapons that kill unborn children with a deadly breath (nuclear weapons perhapse?) etc.
Perhapse these "gods" created us by putting their own genes into primates (Adam and Eve) (why didn't other primates other than us develop? By now chimpanzies would have to have at least axes or something)
If you consider this theory to be true, then the Bible and every other religion makes perfect sense.
Why do people always point to the sky when talking about gods. Why In every religion gods come down from skies?
In fact, the technology that would have to be used for making such myths i available to us now. We have genetic engeniering, we have space ships, planes, rockets etc. We could just as well go to another planet where there are some primitive primates and do the same thing.
I am not sure in what I belive, but I consider this to be one of the possibilities. And if you think I ma crazy, I'll just say that I am not the only one. I didn't make up this theory.

I think you're all reading way too much into this. It's a book. Some things in books are true, some are false. The bible is an old book, with stories that people've placed alot of value in. It's valueble for its stories, what it tells about human nature, and as an historical resource. However, it's not from god or any alien species; it's just a damn book.

You must honestly seek God without Mockery and he will show you his face.
Until a Man truly seeks him in private prayer and truly asks him to show himself you are blind.
That is the problem with seeking God. First you must believe and except him before you will meet him.
Kinda like.........Ok you will get 30 million dollars if you jump off this building and don't worry You will not die. A net will pop out and save you. But you can't see the net you have to trust it will be there. Then you will get the cash rewards
Same with knowing God, you have to trust and truly seek him. His love is a gift that you must reach out to take. Not some free ride you just pick up when you have the time.
Seeking God's face is work just like a marriage but harder

It makes more sense than the common alternative. I once suspected God as being an alien as well... and perhaps the idea that these ancient people held of God was indeed an alien...
Either way, there is no way for us to know, so you know what we dont' do? We don't hold the idea up on a pedestal and declare it as the one and only Truth, the Word of God himself, and we don't stop questioning it.
Peace.

i consider myself an open minded guy. I meditate; i believe in the possibility of a er, more incluive perception of reality than our day to day existence. I try to percieve the world as it is, and i know that these things i write, my linguistic thoughts, are not the true reality.
but, your (fucknuckle and mckennafan) ideas of god and the bible honestly seem totally off the wall to me. i don't think my mind is constituted in a manner that makes it possible for me to believe what you believe, and i don't think that your beliefs make you essentially different from me. Although, they do cause you to ask some fuckin weird questions, like "why doesn't god smite people any more?"
