I think I stuffed up...

I used the 'Ramsey Seal' to seal my jars. The only problem is that I wiped both sides of the aluminium foil with rubbing alcohol (one with disinfectant) in an attempt to be really sterile. I just realized that some of that rubbing alcohol will be physicly touching the flour/vermiculite mix in the jars. Will this stop the myclelium (sp?) growing? Shall I abort now or is it all OK? It's not as if the foil was drippping wet or anything. Anyway, this is my first attempt and the jars are still being sterilized so if it's all for nothing please tell me so I can start again instead of waiting 4 weeks then starting again. Thanx.

Ethanol evaporates over 80?C.
Sterilisation temperature in a pot is app.100?C.
You will be ok.

I used Detol household disinfectant on one of the bits of foil and 70% Isoprpyl Alcohol from a medical swab on the other two. Even if it does evaporate, where's it going to go? They're airtight. Are you sure I havn't stuffed it up already?

The jars shouldn?t be airtight!
How did you make them airtight?

Oh really. I thought that's what the seal is for on the jar to prevent contamination. They may not be airtight - just a normal screw on lid with foil around the thread from the Ramsey seal.

After I boiled them for an hour, there's alot of moisture visible through the glass, lots of droplets on the side. Is this OK?

ive heard the ramsey seal users have nothing but contamination..when you poke holes in the foil to innoculate you leave a good way for the moisture that builds on top of the seal to drip right in..
