(Lime Water) Kills green mold?
    #3387470 - 11/20/04 03:44 AM (13 years, 3 months ago)

I found this on a random forum, I have recently had a problem with the "green meanie", this quote says that "Lime Water" will get rid of this mold. Anyone know anything about this lime water - sounds illogical to me...

Quote from random forum:
" Ok, your solution is twofold.
1) you should be using Perlite rather than Vermiculite as your 'Humidifier'.
2) you need to treat the affected areas with a spritz of Lime water, very diluted. The green loves acid, and alkali kills it. Just buy some horticultural lime and mix a teaspoon of it into a Spray Bottle, and spritz the Perlite judiciously. If you are using double-end casing, you may want to soak the vermiculite under the cakes in lime water as well.

Keep up the good hygeine, and let us know if you have further problems :0) "

Don't grow mushrooms if it is illegal where you live.

Oh my god is this true? Will it not harm mycellium? I have been looking for something that will do this for so long.

Someone posted a link to a write up about using salt against green mold over at mycotpia. I think it was Hippie. You could probably do a search and find it. I'm sure its been more thoroughly tested by now. I dunno but i'm just kind of skeptical about getting rid of the green but if either method works rocknroll.

I dont think they were using salt alone to treat it. They were first cutting out the infected area then salting the gouged area and filling with sterilized casing mix.

Dont just dump salt on your substrate.

Lime is a ph buffer. Mushrooms like a higher ph then trich does so if you buffer the ph up to the right point then the mushrooms will thrive and greenie wont like it. Over time mushrooms also make the casing more acidic which is why the longer the casing exists the more likly the green is to get it..the environment gets better for it. Thats why we use slow release buffers too.

I could have gotten that stuff backwords but I'm almost positive thats the correct, the idea is anyway even if its mushies that like the lower ph and the lime drops it..

To much will make it bad for mushies too though..
