Is there anything there, a small piece of something that is preventing a tight seat of the seal?

Try cleaning the top rim of the pot, and inside lip of the lid(under the seal) with a scotch-brite pad. When you first use the PC wash the seal with a bit of soapy water. It should help.

my pc leak also, but I guess that's cool if the pressure indicator is giving you the correct value?

If it's getting up to 15 psi it's all good.

If it doesn't have a Gage it's set by default to 15 psi by using a weight, the weight may be marked with what psi it makes. When the weight starts dancing around there is enough pressure inside the pressure cooker to lift up the weight and let some steam out.if you just bring it up to where the weight starts dancing around then turn down the heat to just below that point you will maintain 15 psi and it won't boil dry. If you keep the heat on high and your pressure cooker weight is dancing for 2 hours sterilizing grain you can boil it dry and possibly warp it.incidentally causing leaks. Also let it cool on the stove so it doesn't warp...no putting it in water to make it cool faster! And don't take the weight off to let the pressure out so you can open it if you have agar in it!The agar will boil violently and make a mess.It will also spatter test tube rims and petri dish rims creating a path for contaminants to grow their way into your cultures. Only open it if you're just sterilizing empty glassware or vermiculite or tools. You don't really need a Gage if you keep the weight and the little tube it sits on clean and clear. If I hold the weight down on mine I can watch the pressure rise but left alone it maintains 15 PSI. If I leave it on high and don't turn down the heat when the weight is dancing it reads 18 PSI. some have a dial that allows you to adjust the pressure on the weight but everything you do is going to be at 15 so keep it simple. To check a pressure cooker for warps put it upside down on on a glass table or other flat surface and push down around the bottom. If there is any rock or wobble it's probably warped.Check the lid too. If the handle is in the way hang it off the side of the table and do the rock test. You'll look like a fool at the garage sale doing this but you won't be dropping coin on a useless chunk of metal. Short answer is I don't use the guage but I have one. I listen to the weight.
