slow growing cobweb?? (update + PICS!!))
    #3383634 - 11/19/04 12:32 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

***UPDATE***
I finally got my camera. I birthed all my cakes other than a couple. The reason that I did not go ahead and dunk and roll is that they look a little questionable. So I wanted to wait and accually give you guys a couple photos before I did anything. These are of two jars:

+++++++++++++ JAR ONE +++++++++++++++

+++++++++++++ JAR TWO +++++++++++++++

Sorry I dident get any more images of JAR TWO but it did not look nearly as bad as JAR ONE

thank you guys for taking a look again

===========================================================
I have a very odd issue I have yet to come by (granted i have not grown that much yet). At the edge of the myc. in a couple jars there is this white/gray fuzz that looks a lot like cobweb. These jars are about 90% colonized and I have noticed this and sepeated the jars for observation. Over the last two days the look of this suspected contam has not changed at all. It has increased in size by maybe 10%, not a large change at all. I have had cobweb hit me twice early in this grow. Is it possible to have a contam almost at the end of colonizing when there wasent before? Can cobweb grow this slow, ther other two jars were compleatly covered in like two days? Should I pitch or is there anything i can do to test if it is cobweb? Any input at all would be great and feel free to ask questions.

i have been giving them more light now that they are starting to get really close, in hopes to help pinning...one jar that is about 98% done is starting to pin but it does not show these symptoms. It does not really look like pre-pin in that it isent bunched up....if that made any sence

hmmm you got me stumped. ive only gotten cobweb once and it actually grew on top of my verm so im not to sure what it looks like on the cake. but from my understanding it would take over your jar quick like the others. here is what i would do. seperate like you have done. in a dark place. if it gets worse then toss it if it colonizes 100% then birth it in a poor mans terrerium just in case.

Yes, it can happen. Besides, uncolonized portions of the substrate are more suitable for developing contams.

Be patient, time will tell.

I don't think they're contaminated, although growth does look funny/weird in jar n?1.
For how long are they incubating ?
Anyway, wait until full colonization then birth the cakes. Any strange smell after birth can indicate yeast/bacteria contamination, which sometimes is invisible.

They have been colonizing for about a month now, i am a bit woried about the brown look in jar 1...No smells, only one contaminated in the whole bunch. If they arent contaminated then I will most likely cut away areas that are not grown over, that is what I have done with the other jars since I used a fine vermiculite and they have been slow to grow.
