Is this the right coco? (pic)
    #3383210 - 11/19/04 09:59 AM (12 years, 17 days ago)

Hey everyone,

Casing time is approaching fast and I've been having trouble locating peat moss (seasonal thing around here apparently). I located this coco stuff, not 100% positive if it's coco noir though? If it is the right thing I'll be giving the coco casing a try. It claims the PH range is neutral, any reason to add calcium buffers, etc?

Thanks

actually, the pH isn't exactly neutral, but it's not that bad. I've done casings without buffering the pH with coco coir/verm and they turned out great.

still, consider that the happier you make them, the happier they will make you. if you want to do the best you can for them, buffer the pH, but ALWAYS check it before and after you do it.

Yes, that is correct.

The pH of coir can range from 5.2 - 6.8, so it's not exactly optimal, but it is much better than peat, which comes in at 3.0 - 4.0, and must be buffered.
