I been noticeing that the cyan's in my yard are not turning the purple-brownish color, on the gills, that they are suppose to When they begin to release thier spores. Any clues???? I've waited untill the caps have become covexed but the gills are still the tanish brown color!!!!!!!! The caps are starting to get old and I don't want them to rot should I pick now or wait????

I think you should pick them, and then take a spore print, then you can throw the paper in the spot where you found them, or a different spot. Whatever. If your only goal is to procreate, then just leave them.

Pick them and take spore prints; post a discription. They may not be cyans.

I Know for certain that they are cyan's. I picked a bunch out of the same patch earlier this year and they where one hell of a trip. The ones that I picked before this batch gave me some excellent prints!!! So I picked some today and they gave me an extremely light print- Very light purple Except the blue ring in the middle of the print where I cut the stem off!!!The caps are a light Carmel color that turns a darker color with age, most of them have a lighter spot in the cap where the stem is ( I believe that this is from drying). I noticed that the stems ( that are mostly white except when they are disturbed, then they get a deep blue tinge) Is fibrous and almost all samples had a curve to them. The edge of the cap also has a blueish-green ring around the outer edges!!!

I've seen 3 different species of mushrooms growing out of one cow turd. The mushrooms you are finding probably aren't Cyans. Perhaps the temps changed too much for the cyans to grow and the other species is dominate now.

I wish i had a digital camera so I could snap a picture. I not positive that they are the exact mushroom but pretty sure!! The temp's are pretty much the same for the last month right around 50-60 during the day, and in the upper 30 lower 40 at night. Most of the shrooms that are their now where pins at the time of my last harvest. Besides what are the chances that One of the non active bluing species would be growing from the exact same spot as my cyan's where a couple weeks ago? I'm not trying to be argumentative I just don't think that they are a different species, If you know of any other species that Blue, grow on decomposing wood in the PNW, and produce a purple/or purplish print please let me know. I would love to learn about them! But for argument's sake lets say they are cyan's, any clue why they would produce little/no spores?

Too dry maybe? Did you try putting a drop of water on the cap and then placing them under a glass to raise humidity while printing? Did you let then sit over night?

I was contemplating that earlier today. I'll give it a another try with some water. It has been really dry this season, most of the rain has simply "blown through" and just soaked Seattle. I also noticed that the ones that I left in my yard are really dry now I think I'll try and water them also to day!!!
