The "New Forest" is an area term MJ, infact alot of it is meadowland, pasture, and moor.

Well I never heard the phrase "area term" used before by anyone in my sixty years.. Is that like when you want to smoke pot on a roadtrip you say, " Good God, lets stop and have some ice cream?"

I found a few this morning in the New Forest, but the pickings have been getting slimmer over the last week.
The nasty frosts on Saturday and Sunday morning had taken their toll, I saw many more completely dead and blackened or damaged.
The forecast for this week is cloudy and milder, so hopefully there should be more by the end of the week, although I saw no small ones this morning.
For those confused by the area term 'New Forest', here's a picture of the habitat I was looking in:

Picked 13 (the Moon's number) just east of the furthest N.Eastern edge of the "New Forest" -a favourite haunt- on Wednesday, but that's all folks!

the ones on the bottom left are more of a tan brown and come to more of a point. i only found a few of them. the ones on the right are more of a gray brown, them are more opened up and smell kind of like the mushrooms at the store. I found lots of these.

Not libs surely. Are they slightly yellow gilled and/or rather translucent?

Some fresh libs can be translucent "ish", but it ain't at all hopeful.

One, used to be, very well producing field has become effectively "out of bounds" I've tried asking at the farm for permission but the guy's never been in. I also wrote him a letter last year to which I have never got a reply (again asking permission nicely). He reputedly keeps two large and viscious dogs so getting his say so is a must. Before you ask it's in the middle of the post, I couldn't be bothered to re-write it (which I would have had to do if I had moved it). Somehow it's better there.

Found a couple handfulls in about a half hour's walk yesterday. Interestingly enough, they were coming up even though it hadn't rained in a week and had frosted over the night before. Slim pickings but that there were any at all is a good sign that there's more to come - it's supposed to rain and warm up a little this week!
Wheee!

With reference to the barricaded field mentioned above, some bugger has apparently had a large haul away (not me). I wonder how he avoided getting eaten?

No luck so far in the Umpqua River valley. Too late maybe, maybe to far from the coast, yet they seem to grow in the Willamete Valley. On another note, a friend of mine originally from South Hampton England(regionally people from South Hampton happen to be known as "Mush", so he says) told me that a forest burned down, and then grew up again to now be known as "The New Forest", and is a fine place to go on a cap hunt.
