Leaving for vacation, should I birth or wait?
    #3380252 - 11/18/04 05:45 PM (12 years, 17 days ago)

I am leaving for vacation in exactly 6 days, and I'll be gone 5 days. I won't be able to return home or have anyone keep track of my pf jars. Is there enough time to try for a first flush, or should I wait until I return? Like I said, no one would have any access to them during that 5 day period.

It depends where you are with your grow. Putting them in a refridgerator while you are gone would slow growth a lot.

If you have a terrarium setup that would provide adequate humidity/temperature/light then I would suggest birthing them before you leave.. that way, by the time you get home, you should have AT LEAST some pins growing.

maybe.

I'd suggest putting them in the fridge the night before you birth them, btw.. a nice cold shock should induce pinning.

So i can birth them, even though I won't be able to vent the CO2 in the terrarium? I figured this was an integral part of the process, so I would have to fan/spray them every day. I'm using perlite, if that makes any difference.

In that case, I'd suggest just waiting.

note idiotek said "If you have a terrarium setup that would provide adequate humidity/temperature/light then I would suggest birthing them before you leave.." your terrarium doesn't meet those qualifications so thusly, don't birth and stick em in a fridge. Even if they got quite colonized you can always revive them using the dunk tek

If it's an option, set up a PMP (see post: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...e511e1200843489 ), which automates humidification, air exchange, and temp. If your cakes are ready to be birthed, you'd be OK I figure. Then again, if contams set in in the terrarium w/ you not around to clean up, things could get messy.
