Cake turning blue?
    #3377353 - 11/18/04 02:44 AM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Hello fellow shroomers!

I have a cake that seems to be blueing on one side, and slightly on the top corner. It definitely looks blueish! and i do say blueish cause you can see a tinge of green in there too, but the main colour is without a doubt blue. I am in two minds as to whether to play it safe and chuck the cake, or keep it another day to see how it goes. I dont have the materials to make a make shift terranium to isolate it.

can some one answer these two questions pretty please?

1. does contaminant travel much faster than mycelium? eg. will i know in the next 24h if this is a contam by the amount of growth, if it grows of course. or by a change in colour to a greeny colour?
2. Should i just chuck the cake?

It was birthed about 30 odd hours ago so it has been handled recently, but i had another cake that was a cold hearted bitch to get out of the jar, and that is showing no blueing despite the world war 3 i had to go through to get the bitch out.

your help is appreciated!

p.s. sorry, dont have the technology to show pics!

If you birthed it after it reached 100% colonization, a competitor contam would have trouble grabbing a foothold. Its probably just the mycelium changing color. Could appear slightly green because of the color of media being used also. (blue mycelium + yellow milo = green wtf?)

Cheers DMC. I checked about 15 min ago and it's gone a deeper blue/green. it's tripping me out cause the other cakes are looking sooo good, im thinking i dont want to fuck it up by rolling the dice with the contam gods.
Is there anyway of telling if its contam or not? devastated that i cant put a pic up of it. time to invest in a digi camera me thinks.
Im seriously thnking im going to chuck it to be safe, cut it up to see if it's contamed on the inside. wish i had some casing mixture.
