Are my dried out cakes still viable?
    #3376943 - 11/18/04 12:25 AM (13 years, 29 days ago)

Hey all,

I left some colonizing cakes too long, and they got a bit dry it looks like. It has been about 2-3 weeks now since they were SUPPOSED to be birthed. They are fully colonized and the mycelium looks good, just not moist. Can I dunk the cakes overnight and revive them? Is there any hope for this batch? Thanks for your help.

Ark

Dunk them and all should be well.

Hell yeah, they'll be fine. A couple years ago before i knew what i was doing, not that i know a lot now but, i left some jars colonizing for like 2-2.5 months and they fruited like mofo's by just adding a casing.

Thanks. I had them at a friends house and he neglected them, but now I'll get them going again. This will have been my first attempt at cultivation, so I'm hoping for the best.

Daimyo how about dunking some cakes which are only slightly colonized but rather dry?

I'm not Daimyo but don't do this.
Your cakes should be fully colonized before you attempt any of that...

I think if I cant add water then I must toss them, the myc stopt growing after a few days already, 4 jars no growth at all. 3 jars only 1,2 or 3 small spots, and 1 jar which still is growing, now maybe 5% is colonized sigh.

So I think I will xperiment with dunking some in sterile water..

If you dunk an uncolonized cake, it will promptly turn into brown rice flour paste.. not to mention it is no longer sterile if you remove it from the jar.

Just wait..it can take time..you'll waste your jars if you mess with them. Unless its been 3 weeks yet you shouldnt be worrying. It may take a little longer but it will colonize. If you dont screw it up trying to dunk it that is.
