Moisture/condensation build-up in jars
    #3374688 - 11/17/04 02:52 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

I have turned some of my PF jars upside down to release CO2, in hopes of getting my stalled jars going again.

However, now water droplets have accumulated on the bottoms(now the top) of these inverted jars. I have tried loosening the lids and removing the tape, but to no avail. The water drops are staying right where they are.

My question is, is this a normal occurence when you turn your jars upside down, or is there something I should do to avoid this? The substrate itself is not directly touching the water droplets, still I am concerned with contam risk.

Any sugestions would be great. Thanks!

leave the tape and lids on. its absolutly normal. The contam risk woulda been WAY bigger if you took off the lid to get rid of the water!

Well I would never remove the lids completely. I was just advised at one point if there is too much water buildup inside the jar to loosen the lids to allow some of it to escape.

Thanks for the info, I was feeling it must be normal since all my inverted jars are producing droplets.

Thanks again!

As the myc colonises through jars it seems to create more standing water. At least I have always observed this in my jars. It goes from pretty dryish stuff, to myc with big water drops in there.

This is another reason why I think an even distribution of spores at the beginning is important, if the entire outside of the cake colonises at around the same time, it shouldn't matter too much if it becomes a bit damp.

Your cool,Man.If you are going to turn the jars upside down be sure and take off tape. The verm layer will protect it.
