Help ASAP
    #3373179 - 11/17/04 10:52 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I started growinw mush for the first time using a grow kit. I had two P. Cube cakes with plenty of mycelium growing on them. I accidentally knocked the kit today and the cakes were knocked over. The mycelium disappeared. Am I screwed or do the shrooms still have a chance?

Wait a minute.

Ok so you bought a kit, the kit was made of two cakes? You knocked them over...and the mycelium disapeared.

Do you mean it stopped growing?

What kind of container did you have them in, where were they placed? Were they enclosed? What were the temps and humidity levels? Were they exposed to light? Did pinning start or was it still in the mycelial stage?

This is way too vague for anyone to give advice. Begin with the type of kit, and your growing enviornment/location. Then tell us the current state of your cakes/kit. Do you have a camera to take pictures?

the mycellium can be flattened, give it a few days and it should fluff back up.

Do you mean it stopped growing?
--The white fluff isn't on the cakes anymoreand I don't know what happened.
What kind of container did you have them in, where were they placed?
--They were in the container given by the store, approx. one foot by one foot by two feet, placed in my closet so I can slide it in and out of light.
Were they enclosed?
--yes
What were the temps and humidity levels?
-74F and 90% humidity
Were they exposed to light?
Yes, as directed.
Did pinning start or was it still in the mycelial stage?
Late mycelial stage but two pins were visable, and still are because this one spot didn't hit the perlite.
Do you have a camera to take pictures?
no

If you ever get the chance to do a casing, and you are crumbling your substrate, you will notice that the mycelium seems to disappear in a sense and you can see your original substrate a little more.  I think it's due to squashing the mycelium.

It should be fine, especially if after 8 hours or so your pins are still growing.

Kits are rather troublesome and even harder than the PF-Tek to pinpoint what is wrong.
