Big Problem... can't find a solution. Please Help.
    #3372806 - 11/17/04 05:32 AM (12 years, 24 days ago)

I prepared my substrate jars and inoculated them on Nov 1st. They looked perfect. Not too much moisture, but just right. I was even worried that it might be a tad on the dry side but I left it alone. The jars started colonizing normally and everything was going fine untill about 2 days ago (colonize day 15). I noticed that water droplets were building up inside the jars. It didn't seem too bad. Yesterday I checked again and there was LOTS of water on the inside glass of the jars and the myc appears to be 'pulling away' from the glass (looks like the cake is shrinking). I imagine it is doing this because the moisture is too high inside the jars. Looking at the bottom of the jars, there's no water collecting there at all. It's just around the sides. I've searched but haven't found any answers as to what course of action should be taken with this.

Today the cakes look... soggy. BTW, this is my first grow and I'm using the PF-TEK. I followed the instructions to the letter. 1/2 verm, 1/4 BRF, 1/4 water. PC'd for 1 hr. Injected spores through the 4 holes punched in the outer rim of the lids, etc. etc.

My question is what should I do now? Is there anything that can be done now? Thanks in advance for any help or advice you may be able to offer.  :mushroom2:

Doesn't really look like you have much of a problem. A few days and those babies will be ready to be birthed. You can turn them upside down if you haven't already to help even out the moisture content. If there is excess water the verm layer will help absorb it. Good luck!

Yeah, they are OK, it is normal for the cakes to shrink and it is normal to have some condensation. It might be that you are incubating them at a too hot a temperature?

Yea, I took the foil off, loosend the lids as much as possible and flipped em upside down yesterday hoping the dry verm would catch some of the water. It doesn't seem to have run down the side of the glass though. It just kinda accumulates there in droplets. Oh well, I'll hope for the best. I've increased the heat a bit as well. They are now at about 89F. I dunno if thats whats best but we'll see :P. Thanks for the reply though.

No, I was actualling incubating them at about a constant 79F. This is my first time and I wanted to take it slow. I'm a patient person and am in no rush. I have since raised the temp 10 degrees. Maybe this is a bad thing? I dunno. I'll try it for a day and see, I guess. Thanks for the reply.

89F? You should drop that temp a little. 86F is optimal. Getting close to the red zone there, buddy. They are that colonized and there is no standing water, and you have flipped them, I'm almost positive you'll be okay. You getting real close to a harvest my friend!

Cool, thanks Anno and Lifenergy. You seem to have saved a panicking newb from doing something rash. You're guys are heroes! Hehe, anyways, Ima go lower it back down to 80F. Thanks for the tip. I didn't know what else to do.

Your jars are fine bro, my grain jars swim when they near full colonization. People dunk their jars before birth, completely submerged for 24 hours. Extra moisture is better then dried out in my opinion.

Good luck.
