Early Maturation? ***HELP** (Pictures) **UPDATE**
    #3370769 - 11/16/04 09:12 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Hi everyone. I first noticed pins on Thurday, 5 days ago. I've been lead to believe that mushrooms reach maturity in approx. 3-5 days. Within the past 5 days, the pins have barely grown at all. The largest pin is only 1/4 of an inch. Please see pics below:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/DSCF0432.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/DSCF0430b.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/DSCF0429.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v166/bjared2004/DSCF0431.jpg

Notice in the first picture I circled the cap of the mushroom. I did this because it looks to me that the gills are exposed, which is only supposed to happen after maturity.

Is it possible that these are aborts, which would explain their slow growth.

Please help! I was planning to trip on Friday and now I am beginning to wonder whether or not it will be a possibility.

Thankyou.

I am positive that there is no cobweb on the casing. If you strongly believe there is cobweb, please do not post. When answering my questions, please assume that there is no cobweb.

*Shrug*

Do as you wish. You have been told by two people who have been here for quiet some time, that it is cobweb infested. If you want to ignore that, then go ahead. That is your choice, and that is something we cannot control.

Have fun.

Would cobweb be forming primordia?
I trust your opinion, but the pictures distort the picture.

IF it did have cobweb, is that what would be causing the irregular growth?

IF it did NOT, which I believe, what is causing the growth?

I am also willing to bet since it has been going on for so long (You said your pins did not grow at all), there is green under inside that casing.

Thanks, so green mold means that there is absolutely no way to save it, correct? Should I leave this from a few more days, or should I remove it immediately so my other casings do not become contaminated?

Well you could try to fight it. It has been done. But then there are also very few who have fought it and won.

There is a bleech tek you could try.

Personally I dont risk it with contams. I see a contam, I put it in the garbage.

Contams will spread easy, and effect your future grows.

Also, those are not aborts. Aborts have dark, almost black tips. They do not mature.

BUT!

You could try this.

First mix up some h2o2 solution(1:10 is standard), and mist down your casing.

Next harvest it. Toss out everything.

Then, either dunk it in a container in the fridge overnight with 1:10, or give it a heavy mist(Mist untill the casing layer stops absorbing).

I was under the impression that it was weak mycelium. Anyways... Suppose this casing has both cobweb mold AND green mold. Should I just give up and dissect it, or should I give it a few more days. It is still forming new pins, and they may only be growing slowly because of far from optimal conditions

if i was you, i would get that thing out of my house asap. that thing is putting contam spores all over the place, and all in your grow chamber and stuff. that casing is way to over-run to be saved. try again, and make sure you clean the heck out of everything too.

It's diseased, no cobbweb, it's just..diseased lol...Well you might wanna ck it out and see if there is any green mold, mine looked like that and *Scoffs* whatdoyakno, Green stuff...But Hey maybe you're one of those rare cases and just happen to have mushrooms that like to mature b4 their time.....And i thought it was kind of childish to just trash peoples opinions when you asked them what they thought...That's not cool, but hey, it's your cake, you eat it.

yeah if it has green mold remove it also i believe its cobweb as well...but anyway what strain are you growing

http://www.shroomery.org/images/23418/cobweb061.JPG

cob web picture it looks just like yours man

also i would suggest digging a shallow hole putting some manure in it dropping the whole casing into it cover with manure and maybe some wood chips or good topsoil and check back next spring and fall your porrly get a few chunky shrooms

-mike

also to answer your question yes cobweb can slow growth of mushrooms and actually begin to make them rot away. Alsio not having optimal conditions will make them open early cause they think they are going to die so they open up and try to drop spores thats why optimal conditions are optimal
