Here's a good tek on WBS. I have skipped the soaking before and just simmered for 30 min. with no problems BTW. It's up to you though. http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/26004

That is indeed a great tek... way to go Doc.

Some personal experience tips using it:

1. If you want the fast-ass colonization times some people gloat about with WBS: first off use liquid culture to inoc instead of spores (or G2G, if you are sterility-conscious), and second REALLY keep the heat up (86F+) for the first 3-4 days, then drop it to around 82-84F. In reality, if you use spores and just a regular temps the whole way through (82-84), then guess what it's going to take almost exactly as long to colonize as BRF jars, minus a little bit because with WBS you have the advantage of shaking to distribute colonized bits. Rye seems to be where the creepy fast colonization times are at, but WBS almost keeps up, and I'm doing an experiment with a batch of WBS right now that was soaked with a 1/4 cup of coffee mixed in overnight, and then simmered with 2 cups. I am hoping the caffeine, like in the other experiments, will make the myc colonize WBS faster.  :smirk:
2. You'll enjoy great yields just by casing the WBS and fruiting like normal, but if you want INSANE yields, spawn it to manure (search for teks), and you'll have some FAT ass shrooms.  :mushroom2:
3. If you use tyvek under the lid AND foil, be aware that they may form quite a bit of condensation on the top of the tyvek as a result of evaporation. Wiping it every couple of days will prevent the standing water from wicking and possibly catching a mold spore and germinating the tyvek. Yes, I have seen tyvek turn blue with contam, but it poses little threat to your substrate if you catch it quick and replace the tyvek lid in sterile invoronment. 99.5% of the time though, if you have a sterile incubator, you'll never have to screw with that in the first place.
