garbage mill
    #3369282 - 11/16/04 04:39 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

these forums seem to have become a garbage mill.
most post are just posted for provocation, some intent just to get reaction, this works well as the seems to be a good correlation between how stupid a post is and how many replies it gets.

this is ok but sort of stifles out meaninfull discussions on spirtuality and makes this forum less usefull for everybody, there is always "the pub" .

here for your info is my take on some buddhist ideas, as ive seen it used to say such things as "nothing is real" "nothing exists" "just think dont do anything"

IF YOU DONT WANT TO PARTAKE IN A REASONED DISCUSSION ON THIS SPECIFIC TOPIC PLEASE START YOUR OWN THREAD _ THANK YOU.

i think that many here fundamentally misunderstand eastern or buddhist thought. maybe a bit more reading would clarify some of their ideas even if the realization of these ideas are supossed far harder.
i suggest hui nengs comments on th daimond sutra.

"nothing is real" "nothing exists" "just think dont do anything"

on this i would say quite the opposite, the are not trying to dissociate from reality or action in the real world they are indeed trying to get closer to it to ACT more appropriately. they are trying to be minfull of what is going on by concetrating on being in the moment. what they say is that by queiting the senses eg meditation and other tecs, you may experience and learn to experience the the immediate reality without emotional(feelings) and perceptional(seeing only what you want) bias brought on by previous experience of similar situations, eg live in the present uninfluenced by past and the idea of future as the maintain there is only the now and past and future do not exist or at least are irrelvent and, cannot be lived and is a hindrance. of course you reatin wisdom but the idea is not to retain bias.

as you conyinue this practice of non judgement and detachment(not from reality but from desire) -only mind- without desire(for pleasure) or aversion(for pain) you indeed will stop judgeing, just living, then will also start to lose your old aversions/desires eg the layers of previous experience built up on yourself, indeed your ego. as these layers peel of you become better at seeing clearly eg just being(no thought required), as part of this process is the recognition of how certain emotions feel, recognizing them and stopping yourself from acting on them eg event - sense - recognition and then instead of normal reaction, you act without desire or aversion eg you act correctly to the situation as it really is.

thank you for not replying just because your bored.

and that is your view

fun game we play, is it not?

while a lot of the recent posts have not sparked my interest like some in the past, is not making a thread about this issue the same as replying with negatitive concepts within the thread?

or even replying to such a thread as this...

i mean...

:mushroom2:

I don't think this board is a garbage mill. I think that it has it's fair share of garbage that you have to dig through to find the treasures, just like in real life.

To put it simply: if you don't like it, there's the door.

Edit: P.S. I think you are right about the mis-interpretation that occurs occasionally regarding buddhist concepts.

To put it simply: if you don't like it, there's the door.

The door to another dimension, the exit, the portal to a new way of thinking...?

Where exactly is "there"?

To elaborate on the point I think Gomp's trying to make...

The very semantic bickering and off-subjective "garbage" that you're referring to has taught me more here than the literal philosophic discussions.

If you try, you can learn from the "garbage." Be an observer. Observe how people act, and how people react.

I posted a thread recently called "What I've learned from Swami and Gomp."

It is about this very subject, though it's not so obvious.

Essentially, that thread is about my learning philosophical and spiritual values from the so-called "garbage" of this board.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure, my friend... I learn deeply from the most seemingly-irrelevant content on this board. Perhaps your standards are too high.

Swami,

The portal takes you into the island way of life. I think the door is up gomps ass some where. He says thats where his here and now stuff comes from?

"is not making a thread about this issue the same as replying with negatitive concepts within the thread?"

no this thread is not about frivolous posts its about basic buddhiost thought, if you read my post you would know that. and since it is IN the 'spirituality and philosophy" forum that should be self evident to anybody who can read. apparently not.

it has unfortunately immediately become wasted, as not one of the 8 or so post following the original is even about what im trying to discuss?!!?!??!!

your quie right, i dont have to continue postin here, but i thought id give it one last try, but it does seem to be a wste of time, so here just to show good faith in humanity ill try one last time otherwise i guess its adios!

so ill post it again. and see if someone is interested.

i think that many here fundamentally misunderstand eastern or buddhist thought. maybe a bit more reading would clarify some of their ideas even if the realization of these ideas are supossed far harder.
