Sure, a dog can be trained to find anything, I'd imagine. You just have to learn ho to do the training. I don't think they go over shroom hunting at your local K-9 obediance school.

i was watching some cop show a long time ago that was about training dogs to sniff out drugs. they would hide the drugs somewhere with a rolled up towel also. when the dog found the drugs they played with him by using the towel in a game of tug o war. they said the trick was to let the dog win the tug o war so he always wants to play more. thats all i really remember

I don't know, maybe reward the dog when you do come across mushrooms?

<tongue in cheek> Why don't you just give him loads of shrooms to eat until he aquires a taste for them, like the reindeers did with A Musc? That way, he'll search for them every time without you even needing to ask him! He'd be Doggoaawn!

i think the towl idea is a bad idea....think about it...cops train the dogs to play tug of war with people that have drugs on them....i don't think they could make the distinction...plus the dog might wig out if you bring a bag of shrooms in with you....i think a reward would be better

just my 2cents

Learning to hunt mushrooms would take way less time than training a dog its really not that hard justa alot of reading and research

My dog sniffs out mushrooms, but he does not know one kind from another. I think he is just interested because he sees me giving them so much attention and ignoring him.

I think that if you start out holding some shrooms up to ur dog's nose so he can smell them, then give him a treat, and keep on doing that, your dog will eventually start to sniff them out. You can start out by just putting the shrooms right infront of your dog's nose, then start putting them farther and farther away. Giving the dog a treat every time he smells the shrooms will make the dog associate the shroom smell with a nice, delicious doggy treat and he'll always watn to find them!

im no dog trainer tho. i'm sure u can find info on the internet about this if u'd like to do that (and if ur successful, tell me how u did it!).
